Recording Arpeggios from Motif ES Rack

Recording Arpeggios from Motif ES Rack

Does anyone have this setup and if so can yall help me out? When I record arpeggios to my Fantom X sequencer using the motif rack, it records a single note and I have to keep the arp switch selected on to hear the arp. Is there a way that I can record all the note data to my fantom instead of just one long note?

I just sold my Motif ES 6, but I'll try to help:

There is a setting where you turn the ARP output on and specify the ARP output channel (Utility mode page 90 of the ES Rack user manual).

When I tried this with my setup I found that the Motif would transmit the keys I played as well as the arp notes which was quite irritating. This may have been corrected with the rack since 9/10 times this is not what you want.

Make sure the ARP switch is assigned to the right part (Multi Mode part edit page 84). Make sure you send out on the same channel (if ARP is on channel/part 1 select channel/part one on the Roland).

I know the manual is very difficult and cryptic, but please try to read it many times and eventually it will sink in.

Good Luck!

I have the settings that you suggested and still no success. All that records is one long note. I'm trying to get the exact note phrase from the arpeggio so I can edit it.

I thought about your problem for a bit and here's what I think:

When you record into the Fantom's sequencer the notes go straight to the sequencer track. There doesn't seem to be a way to route MIDI out of the Fantom, bypassing the sequencer so that it can be routed back in.

Your best bet for this is to buy a small controller keyboard. I recommend the M-AUDIO Oxygen 8 or similar. Play the motif rack from it and record into the Fantom's MIDI input.

Hi Jost,

I sold all of my gear to buy an OASYS. Even my Fantom. EVERYTHING! When you get a chance, try one. It's like crack cocaine! And the file system actually works.

I have a midi keyboard so imma try that. Also, someone from the motif site said that it can work with the fantom if i can be set to Local OFF and send out via MIDI on a channel and at the same time not record its own key presses. Can this be done with the fantom?

In the system preferences there is a MIDI setup page and there should be a local off setting there.

I already know how to turn off the local. My question was about sending midi on a channel at the same time and not recording its own key presses. I turned on the "remote keyboard switch" in the midi setup page. Once I did that, I was able to record some of the notes from the motif rack, but the arpeggio would stop after a few notes and wouldn't play all the way through.

Hi MIDIguru, oh yes, I totally understand your move. I myself toyed with that same idea after I spend one hour with the OASYS. It probably is the ultimate Synth.
