robbie,

off topic, but did you get drafted during the VIETNAM WAR?

we learnt about it in U.S.History and our teacher told us his stories about how he escaped the draft! We also watched a movie.

HiveHead, check out 'Astanga Yoga'. Its the toughest Yoga on the market and perfectly suited for someone who had your kind of Martial Art training.

The story of your GM is a very common, especially in Tae-kwon Do and various Karate styles. I reckon Martial Arts is ideal when you are young and 'Yang', but when you are getting older you need to go 'Yin'.

Just turned 53 last month, but doing more with my music hobby than ever before.

Playing in 2 bands regularly atm (just weekend gigs) and putting stuff together on my new X8 - fit in my job when I can!

Always enjoy the "how old are you?" threads but in some ways it's irrelevant as music is one of the great levellers in life. I've played/jammed with people aged 15 to over 70 and when you get "the buzz" age doesn't matter. Great way to learn too!

OK, I've been a bit on the serious side but, hey, I'm "at work"!

Just keep grinding. The best thing you can do for yourself is to throw your music out there to anybody that will listen and create a buzz for yourself. It's a matter of getting your name out there.

At 26 I started playing Piano while working as a volunteer in a Psychiatric Hospitals Music Therapy Department, only 8 months ago, I was given a Casio keyboard form the 80's and now the Fantoms on the scene, like much said already, it shoudldn't be about the money, but it would be nice, if your making, performing or using music as a hobby enjoy it, it is an expression, and with a Fantom you'll always get those neurons sending tingles down your spine, we are only here for short time, compared to the age of the universe, or, three billion years of evelution, we may well be isginficant, DNA may be using us as a sotrage medium for its on continuity of exsistance, by replicating itself in all the various organisms on this planet it secures itself for survial for many millions of years to come, it is DNA that will live through the Ice Ages, and interglacial periods as the temprature warms, sure, a pocket ful of humans and other organisms may survive but it is the DNA that holds the genetic keys to unloock the manual for life, a gene for skin growth, stem cells for growing any organ in the human body excpet the brain, genetics the blueprint of life, as I look at this screen I know the reality of the image presented in a cortex inside my skull is an electro-chemical signal firing through the optic nerve moving from axon to dendrite through many interconnecting cavities, for every action there is a reaction.

chiming in from the mid-west. I'm 24 but i act like a 50 year old recluse. I got my BFA at the Kansas City Art institue in sculpture so i can safely say that even being the worst piano player of this lot, i weld better then any of you.
Not to beat a dead dog, but the question of "making it big" strikes me as odd. This is art right, i'm not off in a tangent outside of reality, am I? Art is about the interation of the created object (in sculptural terms) and the veiwer. That's it. "Making it" to me means that the work you have done (in this case, the music you have made) has, as Kant said "[produced] the feeling of a momentary checking of the vital powers..." At that point when your work has made an impact on some one's soul...you have "made it". I come from an industral crew (funny that i drop 40 hours a week at a bronze foundry) so the idea of playing well isn't of intrest to me, i want to make textures and space with my music. i have only had my board for 4-5 months now but i ahve strugled with creating my whole life. And in these 24 year old bone i feel and think in my soul, not my bank acount. Money is a tool, success is a tool, the fantom is a tool. And i have never owned a hammer that made the my steel beautiful, it was my heart and hands that did that.

craigo, I don't think I've ever read a more complex analysis on the action-reaction stimuli response mechanism involving a Casio and a Fantom. I think you should do a paper on that one.

Great looking studio Skyline, thanks for sharing. I won't be showing my wife however because she loves Victorian style and would then probably want a new house!!

Say SkylineUK,

I found this online evicende to prove that your real age is 36. 36 As in 56 - (2 *10) that is. Owning a Flying V makes one ten years younger, and as you own two that makes me 5 years older than you are. And I'm only 41!

I am 48 born under the sign of Aquarius and all things technical. In a past life I was a bass player and wanted to be a rock star but life moves on. I have tinkered a lot in the past with Sonar using soundfonts only as my sound source and have just upgraded to a Fantom XR with a Novation reMOTE controller. When I figure some of this new tech stuff out I need get some of this emotional sh*t I have been going thru into some music. I'm not too concerned what other people think of it as in the end, it's just my musical therapy :) SkylineUK .. I enjoyed reading about your musical journey ... the stuff of life.
