Velocity Range Upper to mute parts, reclaim polyphony

Velocity Range Upper to mute parts, reclaim polyphony

Update: There is a better way: Use the Sw (Rx Switch) column in Part View.

Original post:
Note that this almost certainly won't solve the needs of a live performer.

Background: As many forum posts have noted, mute is an audio-only function. If you mute a track, the sequenced notes — whether sequenced internally or externally — still consume polyphony. This can lead to running out of polyphony when many tracks are used and muted.

There is an alternative to mute. In Part View, setting the V.U column (Velocity Range Upper) to 1 effectively disables and silences a part by stopping midi notes with a velocity greater than 1. A part silenced this way uses no polyphony. It works for tracks being played or sequenced internally, or externally.

I hope this helps someone!

Why this?

It is just put part as inactive and it won't count as polyphony!

Thanks for the response. How do you make a part "inactive"? That term isn't mentioned in the manual. I'm sure you're right but I could not find a way to turn a part on and off besides muting. Please show me my stupidness — it wouldn't be the first time!

Found it! Feel free to disregard my question. The column in Part View that disables a part is labeled Sw (Rx Switch). I overlooked it and somehow didn't stumble on it in my forum search. Thanks for pushing me to have a second look!
