2 Fantom Gs (does it make sense?)

Re: 2 Fantom Gs (does it make sense?)

I did contemplate it myself at one point purely for the mobility so I could keep the G8 in the house and gig the G7.. After playing it I decided it was too much of a compromise and I missed my weighted keys.

Apart from the mobility side I would never contemplate getting 2 the same.

What's your setup apex, do you have a yammy or korg at mo ?

Why 2 if you can hardly use 1 at 100% ?

:-D

Read my review of the GAIA. You may start thinking of getting 4 Gaias for the price of one G7 ;-)

@ Flumpster.... here is the breakdown.

I have an opportunity to purchase a Fantom G8 (fully loaded Ram, ARX-01, ARX-02, and the Roland V stand)...(all less than 3 months old) for $2000.

I was already in the process of selling my Korg Triton Pro X, but in order to make this happen (smoothly), I will have to sell my g7 too.

But once I sell my G7, I've done away with the main reason I got in the market for a keyboard anyway... I wanted something easy to transport around.

It seems like too good of a deal to pass up (getting both ARX 01, and 02, 512MB ram, the roland V stand and a g8 for $2000)... (am I right?)

I would love to keep the G7 and maybe buy the G8 and attempt a resale of some or all the things I would get in the sale (listed above)., but in order to make this happen AT ALL, I have to sell that g7. So after talking to my wife, we decided... hey just keep the g8 and don't attempt a resale. But then I wouldn't have a portable keyboard option at all. (I'd just have the g8)

I've been trying to decide for the last month or so about getting an m3. I know if I make this purchase that getting the m3 may be a even harder (unless I sell my g7). But my wife (you know how important their opinions are), she likes the look of the g7 more than the m3. (She thinks the m3 is ugly)... so instead of trying to buy an m3 (for a portable option), she was saying would it make sense to keep both the g7 and the g8.

And here I stand trying to see what the general public thinks. Cause I have no idea. I knew you all would be able to help me weigh out the good and bad.

The obvious thing seems to be to get the g8 and a m3-61 or m3-73.... but.....

One thing to consider is that out of the 1000 or so, I'd have left after selling the Triton Pro X and the g7 & then buying the g8, I think it would be ALOT easier to find a m3-61 in great condition for around $1000 (maybe even a little lower), than it would be to find a Fantom g6 or g7 for $1000....

HELP!?!?!?!?!?

apex... you have a lot of options in front of you at the moment but I don't think 2 G's are the way forward... What I like the most is you have the oportunity to go up to the full weighted keys... Let me tell you now that this is a heavy beast, especially when the case comes into it which in my case weighs the same..

You have to try them both, I've used both over the years and when switching from normal keyboard bed to G8 on stage I found it tiring at first (but no more than a real piano would have) but I would never go back.... It's what your gonna use it for mate and you gotta decide.

If I was in your situation at the moment I Would have the G8 and either the XS or the M3 but you gotta suit your needs.

I already have the XS rack.

here is a little further break down ($$$)

Based on what I hope to clear after ebay/paypal fees etc...

Sell Fantom G7 $1850ish
Sell Korg Triton Pro X $850

I've already got about $650 to put toward another keyboard (been looking for an M3)

So total that is $3340 that I've got. So let's spend spend spend!!!!

$2050 (after shipping) for the g8
that leaves $1290

kinda far fetched, but I'd love to get an m3-61 or m3-73 for around $900-$1000... I've still got to get a case for the g8....(i want a gig bag honesty. really don't want to add to much to the 74 pounds of the board)

this is kinda not looking good.... Especially when you consider the fact that I'm selling two keyboards and really only getting one back. (even though it's a G8 w/ ARX01, & ARX 02). Before this deal hit me in the face, I'd actually considering forgetting about the m3 and taking the $650 that I'd been saving for a board and doing something else with it... (like putting it back in the save my money drawer!!!)

Any suggestions for something I could do without touching that money ($650)? And just working with the $2700 that I'll get for selling the G7 and the Triton Pro X. I'll have roughly $700 left to work with immediately. And I need something that's easier to carry around at least until the end of July... rehearsals dang near every week end between now and then. I'll be able to use the Fantom G8 at the conference in July, but I'd really rather something else to take from place to place during all these rehearsals.

My wife today actually said. Can I just keep what I have already. The Triton Pro X (for weighted keys) and the Fantom G7 (with the XS rack, and Roland p330 piano module) for a portable option.

Not a bad idea (and I'd kinda already thought about it), but walking away from that G8 with all the goodies already added just didn't seem too smart.

I wish I could figure out a way to maybe buy the g8 and get the ARX cards out of it, then just resale the g8. In order to purchase it PERIOD though, I've got to sell the G7. (just to keep peace and not take money from somewhere else.) Know what I mean?

Sorry for the book, but I just started thinking and typing and before I new it I'd finished writing Chapter 3.

To whom this may concern. Thanks for the HELP!

Have you tried the G8 yet? It's completely different to your G7 to play which I love but it really is down to personal taste.. Most players who were brought up on a piano love the feel but anyone else coming from a keyboard based background normally hate it... You really have to try them both but my personal preference is the G8.

I've played the g8 briefly. I play acoustic piano, keyboard, and organ. All of it. My fore arms are too strong. I could get down on the the g8. I'm positive!!! (at least I kinda am...)

it's just the other parts of the problem that I'm trying to figure out...

Well I can tell you that I had a G8 first, and switched it to a G7 a few months later. I'm a pianist, and loved the G8's keybed but I gig a lot and lugging it around was a NIGHTMARE. Not to mention the fact that it's hard to fit into cars. Since I got the G7 everything's been so much easier.

If the keyboard is not going to leave your home, then you'll enjoy the G8.
But if you're planning to gig with your fantom G, I strongly recommend sticking to the G7 and NOT getting the G8. If you need a weighted keyboard get a good weighted controller. Trust me you're much better off that way, for the sake of your back :)

If you want a new keyboard why have the same sound set? For me it makes sense buying different keyboards to have different strong points from each. And for 2000 you can get a Muse Receptor, a Kurzweil, Moog, etc...
It all depends of your goals.

If you plan to leave your G8 at home, it kinda makes sense to have 2 G's. You plan ahead everything on your keyboard of choice then transfer all data into the portable one. But I wonder if you want to keep a lot of money into a beast just to play indoors. If you ask me, your first combo (Triton + G7) has more appeal. If you're tight on money, you might want to get a masterkeyboard instead and keep the G7. You'll eventually get those ARX you want...
Here's another "competitor" for your 88 keyboard contest: the new Kurzweil PC3K. Keep you G7 anyway...

Why 2 if you can hardly use 1 at 100% ?

the goal is not to use the instrument to the max (i mean it's not a piano or anything) and use with a good margin.

this allows more flexibility for you to concentrate on the music creation part, not so much how to work the system going through pages of editing to do a few things. kids that have time on their hands can figure it out on their spare time, but i dont have spare time.
