Fantom-S and Fantom-X

card not ready

card not ready

28 Apr 2010, 23:20
Hi, I bought a Fantom X last fall, but never really had time to use it, and now I'm trying to learn how.

I'm coming across this issue:

When I try to save anything to my card, it says "Card not ready!"

What does that mean?

Hi,

It could mean one of a few things:

1) Your card is not inserted properly. (Have you got it the right way up & pushed fully into the Fantom?)

2) The card has not been formatted (Press [MENU]. Select “File Utility,” and then press [ENTER]. Press [F3 (Card Format)]:Format).

3) Your card wa formatted on a PC (sometimes the Fantom doesn't recognise cards it didn't format - sort as #2, above).

If you format your card you will lose everything on it, so make sure you back up any files onto your computer first. I know it's obvious, but we've all done it :o)

Hope this helps

now...
do you have any card inserted?
maybe you don't even have a card...
You need a PCMCIA adaptor to Compact Flash (CF) or to Secure Digital (SD).
Do not ever be ashamed of what you are, what you feel, and what you think. The truth hurts, but it is necessary.

Is it possible that the Fantom is not recognizing my card? It still gives me the same message when I try to format it.

Ok, does the card feel like it's sitting securely in the slot at the back of the Fantom, or is it loose & wobbling around?.

If it's in securely, I would try formatting it on my PC, then trying to format it on the Fantom.

If it's loose, then your PC card adaptor might be the wrong way up or something else.

hmm, thanks, but I don't think I have a way to put a PC card or CF card into my computer. Is there any other way?

Erm...
Does your card have a Write Protect switch on it somewhere? If so, make sure it's set to read/write.

All the manual says for the error message you are getting is: "Card Not Ready! Meaning: A memory card is not inserted in the slot. Action: Insert a memory card into the slot." I'm running out of ideas, I'm afraid.

Have you got another card you can try, in case this one is damaged?

I don't see any switch on it. And unfortunately, I don't have another card to try it with.
Do you know of a good card that is relatively cheap that I could buy online and see if that works?

I don't know if this means anything, but I use the CF card in my Korg Triton Extreme (i'm trying to use it in the Fantom via PC adapter). When I look at the details in the Triton, it says the format is MS-DOS.

Does the CF card work properly in your Triton?

Where in the world are you based?

Yes, it works properly. I have some wave files and sequences saved on it. I live in Michigan (USA), though I bought both of my synths used from ebay.

I have PCMCIA multy car reader. It works everywhere except Fantom X.
Sometimes it works but extremely slow. It is kinda incompatible with Fantom. Now I use PCMCIA adaptor from audio extension kit. It works.
Looks like you have similar problem. Try to find a different brand PCMCIA adaptor.

Yea, that could definitely be the problem. What brand do you recommend?

I use a Type 11 PCMCIA adapter with a 3.5mm standard Compact Flash memory card. Never had any problems. PCMCIA are quite easy to find, but 1GB C/F cards - are now obsolete and rare to find. It is also ideal to buy both brand new, in case any problems occur ` you can replace. Alternatively, you can use SanDisk secure digital memory cards.

Also, the help points that 'Andy keys' has listed, very much covers it - in my sense.
