Pianos do sound pretty bad on FG

Remember - Flumpster is using a G8 with WEIGHTED keys -
Especially as beginner you can`t reproduce the expression of weighted keys on a G6

Friends,

I have been using my Fantom G6 for a couple of days, and I find the Piano sounds reliable enough for most uses, and I find the possibilities almost unlimited to get/create great piano sounds!

In the spirit of - more or less - presenting the scope of options, I have made a small midi file of me playing the theme from Schindler's List composed by John Williams, and I have run the file through 3 different pianos: an on-board as-provided sound (Super NY-Grand, Patch 15), Cyclops' Grand Piano as available in fantomg.navarin.de which uses on-board samples modified to his personal liking and generously shared with everyone here (thanks a lot!), and finally a run through BoricuaRoland's sampled "The Real Grand" that can be discussed in this forums here, which he has so generously made public for everyone to download, you both deserve a medal for sharing all this hard work!.

I believe one could argue that a particular sound is better, more bright, with more body, more mellow, more leveled, etc., but I think we can agree that the sounds that can be accomplished are mature enough to fit most likings. That there are probably better sounding systems, there probably are, but I believe that for being a workstation with vast capabilities, the sounds and possibilities of the FGs are fantastic.

Here are the files if you would like to listen to the different pianos and make your own comparisons:
- Theme with BoricuaRoland's Sampled "The Real Grand" (minor tweaks to EQ)
- Theme with Cyclops' Real Grand as provided in fantomg.navarin.de
- Theme with on-board Sample NY-Grand

@ Bratan
I think no one has supplied the MIDI file you asked in order to take playing out of the equation. I am not a professional player, but I am a trained classical pianists and have been playing for a while now, so perhaps you could use this MIDI file to test which sounds are more pleasant for you. Sorry that the measures/time does not match the score, I just started the record button at 120 and played without a metronome. Later on, I just adjusted the tempo in some minor sections, but there is no relationship between the midi file measures/beats with my playing.
Please, don't use this playing for anything commercial and always give credit to composer John Williams and to pianist Rafael Pólit (played without the author's permission! :( ):
- Midi file of above samples

I would like to thank everyone here for their efforts on making the FG sound the best it can sound. I really appreciate everything done here and hope I will be able to contribute something back in times to come. Thanks!

Rafa.

RafaPolit, nice Piano work!

Well, I think all three sound great but RafaPolit, you need to record cyclops’ and the on-board piano over again. They both have distortion and other artifacts that are not apart of the original sounds.

Maybe you recorded them to loud or something but the original sound quality has definitely been compromised.

Zephyer,

I'm very sorry... being so new to the keyboard, I assigned some Reverb to the studio set which apparently got recorded as well, I thought that the pure instruments where being recorded. I have uploaded again the files and provided the new URLs above.

Thanks for picking on this mistake. Sorry again.

Rafa.

Thanks! Apparently the Sampled Piano by BoricuaRoland suffered from the same mistake... I have uploaded a new file for that as well!, the link in the previous post has been updated.

Thanks again,
Rafa.
