Korg sounds terrible... My Casio seems do a better a piano... lol

The pianos that I use, have nothing with this samples at all...

The playing way counts too...

Bratan, you are a brave soul to come on here with a post like that! I'm rather surprised that the Roland Fanboys on here haven't torn you to shreds!! :)

I use a Korg Triton Extreme 88, and to echo what was said earlier, once upon a time I loved its piano sounds. Now they're pretty awful and I rarely use them. Don't get me wrong, I still love my TE88 to death, but the piano patches are usually the sounds in a synth that have the shortest shelf-life.

I agree with you that the preset piano patches in the Fantom G are lacking. They are muddy and lack the punch/attack I require. You will find the Fantom G user-base is generally split 50/50 on loving/hating the piano presets.

HOWEVER, if you follow the prior tweaking advice and apply it to the pianos, you will find the G has incomparably superior pianos to ANYTHING else on EARTH right now (yes, better than Korg's OASYS, any Kurzweil, and definitely Yamaha's Motif XS). The G's crime isn't having bad sounds; its crime is that its presets aren't tweaked well enough; they lack polish. Once that polish is applied, the G sounds as gorgeous to the ear as its screen is to the eyes.

Take care.

Agreed 100%, but as I've said many times, although the Fantom-G has weak piano presets, tweaking them to their limits, someone can comeup with gorgeous results, as you'll see on navarin site.

LOL I told you I'm not a musician. After 7 months of learning to play (about 30 minutes every other day) that's the best I can come up with so far... Yeah I turn off velocity because I like the full sound when I hit the key. But my post wasn't about my sucky playing, it was about comparing two keyboards. Just wanted to hear some input and opinions. Thanks!

>I turn off velocity

For better results, turn off the power.

...just kiddin.. you should keep practicing dynamics and sensitivity too. Turn the velocity back on.

10 years ago I started to play the piano on a small roland piano :) why should you buy a expensive fantom if you're only starting to play the piano :d then you can't use all it's functions :)

I have to agree with jesse on this one. You really need velocity back on mate. It doesn't matter that it will be all over the place at the beginning, that's called learning but in the long run you will benefit. Start now before you get into bad habits.

I seem to be the only person here that doesn't use a dullish sounding piano. I've always liked bright ones (probably to make it stand out better when competing with the rest of the band). The pianos work fine for me but I'm not using them for recording.

So when you're going to record a number you wont do it with the fantom G but you would use softpianos to play the sound?

I would use sonar to do the recording.. Whatever sounds I need from the G I would record into sonar (synths bass etc). Then I would normally use truepianos vst for the pianos and brass from Kontakt vst.

The EWQL Pianos are way better than this one.
See something on http://www.soundsonline.com .
I'm using the EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold to record orchestral sounds, and it's just awsome! Really good, impressive. I'll probably buy the Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Edition soon!
The pianos are really good....... take a look.

I agree with the orchestra sounds from East West they are fantastic but the pianos were more suited to me from truepianos.

It's down to individual taste I suppose and how much you want to spend. If you just wants pianos the EWQL is a bit too expensive but as a whole package the sounds are great.

I probably think they're better because I'm more centered at classical music......... I bealive that you're playing popular... it's a matter of preference as you said.
I wasn't saying that truepianos are not good!! =)

LOL, you guys are crazy!!! I needed a good laugh today.

For just 7 months and 30mins a day of Piano Bratan you are doing an amazing job, keep it up!

(Not at Bratan in any way) This is a very good example of how someone can misjudge something (Fantom-G) based on there experience level. The same thing happens with the sequencer, patch editing, sampling, etc. Now just think of all the post claiming how bad or good a sound or feature is and weigh that against the odds of all of those posters having your skill level.

That's why it’s good to find someone you like and stick with there advice. I actually have a few people I go with on certain issues. When it comes to gear, TAW and Quinnx (and others depending on the topic), represent two extremes of my personality and understanding of gear well. They are rarely wrong and they try there best to be honest.

I’m not suggesting everyone go with there advice (unless you understand them) because you have to be somewhat of a tech freak to follow them sometimes. But there are plenty of other members that know there stuff.

Unfortunately, TAW and Quinnx don’t post as much as I would like anymore (sniff). But I’m sure once something new happens they'll be at each others throat again, O the love :-) LOL

In any case it’s not always the best idea to look at numbers.
