New Ac. Grand Piano for Fantom G!

New Ac. Grand Piano for Fantom X

Hi BoricuaRoland!!

Is it possible to do the multisamples for fantom-x compatibility, or at least, tell us what samples each layer are made and what notes you sampled. Maybe one of us fantom-x users, will try to reproduce for our boards.

Thanks

Thanks a lot!

I would like to thank you BoricuaRoland for a fantastic result on this sampled "Real Grand" for the Fantom G.

- Theme from Shindler's List (Played by Rafael Pólit on BoricuaRoland's "The Real Grand" sampled piano)

I have used several sampled pianos over the years, including a great Bosendorfer for Tascam's GigaStudio. While those are excellent for recordings, we often find ourselves in need of a VERY good piano to play live (not at a studio). To carry a laptop, or even worse, a full desktop, is overkill!

For that purpose we bought a Kurzweil SP2X with 88 keys, fully weighted, which is a bit to heavy for casual plays (or when we need to get to a high choir of a very old church).

Now, with your "Real Piano" and our Fantom G6 (much more portable although regretfully not fully weighted) we believe we have found our product! :)

Truly, thanks a lot... the sound is fantastic. I tweaked a bit some of the equalizer to better match my speakers. I love the fact that the piano is very-slightly out of tune, and that the chords are not "mathematically" in sync on some notes, which brings some realistic depth to the samples.

I have not yet made the comparison with my other pianos, which I may upload sometime at a later day, but I wanted to share with everyone a recording I made playing the G6 (for it to be a faithful image of what could be achieved only with the G6, no other hardware taken to the live performance, not even a weighted controller).

I really think the piano sounds fantastic, with rich depth and expressiveness:

Thanks again, this is a great community with fantastic knowledge and resources. I'm grateful to have found you.

Rafa.

I agree. I also find that the high velocity samples are a bit metallic on the higher notes, at least on my current configuration.

Not sure if I introduced both of these minor downsides with the change in EQ and the ENHANCER I applied to the first MFX to expand a bit the sound to prevent (what I thought was) a bit of compression in the middle register.

Any insight from the experts here would be highly appreciated. I take it your MadaHorn's NY piano is the de-facto comparison patch so perhaps you are the one to ask about it? :)

Well...EQ can have a lot to do with it. Sometimes even just a one or two notch adjustment can make quite a difference. The enhancer should be used sparingly for piano I think.

I did not download any of these samples yet myself.

Yes! I agree... but I think the Enhancer is the culprit of most of the distortions, including the ringing low notes. I hooked some better monitors (instead of the speakers) and re-made the EQ.

I added a little Church Reverb as well.

Here's the new link (I'm keeping the old one from the post above for comparison purposes):

Most of the metallic sound is gone as well as the resounding bases. Alas, some of the brilliance got lost as well, the new sound is a bit more compressed... I guess there are compromises to be made to achieve the propper brilliance/metallic balance.

What do you think?

Are you going to upload this remade piano RafaPolit. Sounds like you've made it even better.

Simondragon,

Thanks... I think there is no need for me to upload anything, as this is BoricuaRoland's *almost* unmodified piano.

I can, of course, share what are the minor modifications I made, some minor tweaks to the EQ and to the Reverb, here are the settings (click for larger image):

Finally, (and perhaps this is something worth taking up with BoricuaRoland directly) I have replaced the sample [F#3 3] with the sample [A3 3] for the F#3~Ab3 3th voice, cause the original F#3 3 sample has a thump/scratch after about 0.3 seconds into the sound which is distracting. It only triggers on mid to strong velocities, but on some classical passages I play, it is, as mentioned, a bit distracting.

You can test this by pressing F#3, G3 or Ab3 at at medium-to-strong velocity.

Other than that, what you hear is what BoricuaRoland has so generously provided, no changes made!

Hope this helps,
Rafa.

First I have to say congratiolations with your sampling boricuaRoland. But On my G8 the piano sounds really agressive and I even don't have to push hard on my keyboard

Joss,

Have you tried changing the Weight Response curve? Perhaps for your keboard/type of playing a HEAVY setting for the curve may be more suitable for this piano?
