Importing Midi Files into the Fantom

Importing Midi Files into the Fantom

Hi all,

Could someone tell me how to import a midi file into the Fantom X8 ? I use Finale 2007 to create scores. I would like to import them into the Fantom and use them as the basis for a Fantom song. I would also like to be able to assign Fantom voices to the various channels of this midi file. Is this possible ?

It's possible. I don't know Finale, but I'm sure you can save a file as Standard Midi File or something, Look in the Fantom manual for the supported types.
It probably is easier to connect your PC with Finale to the Fantom and play the "score" sending the notes through (USB) MIDI. You can then set all sounds and parts corresponding to the right channels, and finally record the whole piece in the sequencer.

Thanks very much for the reply - I don't know how I would go about recording a midi performance from an external source into the Fantom sequencer - could I ask you to just give me a few key names of the Fantom screens I would need to use, or briefly describe the functions that I would need to access in order to make that happen ? Just like a basic map of the route...

Either via Card or USB file storage, drag and drop the MIDI file into your Fantoms SEQ-> SNG -> folder

Press the save/load button, load song, choose the right file, and there it is.

Hello Richtomes,

I use Finale, also. Just save your Finale file as a format 1 midi file. This puts the midi info on separate tracks. Then transfer the file as MrPillow said to the Roland/Seq/Sng folder of you Fantom. You can then open the midi file and assign whatever patches you wish to each Part/Channel. Save as an .svq file in the Fantom and you changes are saved. You may have to earse any Program Changes in the original file first, however.

This tutorial by V-CeeOh has all the info you'll need. Check it out, it should help.

Thanks very much

Couldn't have hoped for a quicker or more complete response
Thanks so much - Roland Clan is a great community and a great forum - it's great to know it's here.

I am doing this, except from Guitar Pro. I am having trouble getting my changes to save, either as smf or svq file. I get a nice mix, then go back to beginning and all patches and levels return to original import settings. Any tips on the previously mentioned control settings that I may have to reset, ie where I could find those editable parameters? Thanks all. I love this forum, it is fantastic.
