mystery SYSEX in micro edit? X6

17 Sep 2007, 18:36
I have recently found the joy of micro editing. I usually try to record parts exactly the way I want them(no step record), which can be a pain even WITH quantize, especially for those of us who can't play piano ;-P So I started messing with micro edit to adjust notes, duration, velocity,etc. I get the results I'm after, but I started noticing A LOT of sysex messages(all the same) while looking at the micro edit screen. Why would there be so many of the same sysex messages? If it helps I can post the sysex code.....which is alien to me, to aid in the answer.

This could be a coincidence, but when I erased all those seemingly unneeded sysexs while in the micro edit screen, my X6 FROZE(it's only done that once in 4 years) when I exited micro edit to listen to the results of my editing......and OF COURSE I hadn't saved yet :-( have an idea??????

Do you have Transmit Edit Data set to ON in your system settings? If so, every patch or effect edit you make while the recording is going, will get recorded into the sequencer.
I wasn't editing a patch or FX while recording, but I did use realtime erase while recording a bunch of times to get the part right. I don't understand the sysex code so it's possible that all those identical sysex messages are realtime erases?......but why would the X6 log realtime erases in the sequencer in the form of sysex?....The mystery plot thickens ;-}

No, SysEx messages that could be recorded only relate to the changes in sound: either performance, patch or effects settings.
That's strange because I didn't do anything while recording that would effect performance, patch, OR FX......just note on/off. My X6 is old....I bought it right when they came out, and it still has the original mother board....but it has only "froze" 2.....3 times tops, and I haven't experienced any major bugs. So what do you think of that, Art? Thank you for listening :))))

Hello SPISHAK,

Post the code you're seeing and maybe we can tell what the message is.
Bassman

The SYSEX Code Is

20 Sep 2007, 20:08
F0 41 10 00 6B 12 10 00 60 15 00 7B F7...over and over again.

all 0's are the number not letter

Whats does it mean?????

Thanks Bassman :-}

SPISHAK, that's only the first 13 bytes of the sysex command. The interesting bit is likely to be found in the rest, so please post the entire command (See manual page 192 under "Editing a System Exclusive Message").

XXX, Don Philippo

PS: Value 12 at byte 6 indicates a data transfer command (see manual page 306, right column)

Hmmm even weirder!!!!

21 Sep 2007, 18:59
because when I view the sysex code, it only goes to the "13th" step, or F7......or maybe I'm RETARDED?!!! When I highlight the sysex message in the micro edit screen, then cursor right to get to the system exclusive edit screen, the code I posted is all that's there.....13 bytes...ends at F7......remember this is an OLD X6 with the ORIGINAL mobo circa '02

incomplete sysex recorded in sequencer??????? I hope my X isn't dying...... ;-(

Well, if this is the whole message, looks like all the data is byte 12, "00". That's a rather terse set of data no matter how many times it is sent. ;-)

OK, no more dumb replies. I've never done this before, but could it mean this:
F0 = System Exclusive Message [Status]
41 = Roland [Manufacturer's ID]
10 = "dev", assume this is developer? [Device ID]
00 6B = Fantom-X6/X7/X8 [Model ID]
12 = DT1, Data Transmission [Command ID]

Next is memory address that data is being sent to:
10 00 60 15
Decoded as follows
10 00 00 00 = Start of the Temporary Performance memory
Offset
00 60 00 = Start of the Performance Controller
Offset
15 = Arpeggio Hold
Put it all together
10 00 60 15 memory location holds a flag to turn arpeggio hold on and off

00 = OFF [data]
7B = check sum (yes, it calculates correctly)
F7 = EOX (End of system Exclusive)

So, can't tell you why it's being generated, but this seems to be what the message means.

thanx rodan. Even weirder still is I have never used the ARP....not even once. I like to play everything. I think my X6 is diseased ;-(
