My impression of the NX
23 Jan 2011, 12:57I own a GX upgraded with the K-RD700GX1SuperNATURAL Piano Kit.
Yesterday I had the chance to play the new NX.
My very first impression of the piano sound (called "Concert") was: that's exactly what I'm used to.
I think the sounds of this expansion board are now nothing but the internal piano sounds.
In a direct comparison you might think the NX sounds are a bit more transparent or airy but this is possibly not a matter of the sounds themselves but of the following audio circuits like preamps etc., but I'm not sure.
Anyway the difference is not huge.
The sound focus function is something like an exciter that enhances the sound if applied with caution and turns the sound into mono if used heavily.
The Multi-effects 1 and 2 don't have a knob anymore and are switched on/off by the S1 and S2 buttons.
Also the rotary speed can be switched slow/fast by these buttons.
The SN-Epianos are apparently just the same like in the GX which means to me a poor quality.
I'm using the SRX-12 (Classic EPs) expansion board for really authentic Epianos, but the NX doesn't provide expansion slots any more.
And there are not any more the Audio Key function and the arpeggiator.
However it has that audio recording feature.
I didn't bother about all the other sounds. They're certainly of the usually good Roland qualiity.
So all in all I'm satisfied that there's definitely no need to change to the NX.
On the contrary the GX is maybe even the more flexible model and surely the more affordable one considering the expected dropping prices on the used intruments market.
