Yes.

I´m sorry to let everybody down. There won´t be any Fantom update for this NAMM show.

As many thought, the ad featured in www.rolandus.com doesn´t refer to any new workstation. THE GUYS FORGOT TO CHANGE THE FLASH ANIMATION FILE NAME !!!.

By editing the web code, I found the animation file name was "http://www.rolandus.com/flash/video/mv-8800_teaser_spot.flv"

The evidence speaks by itself.

Cheers !

That sucks. Seriously. I was hoping for a fantom Z. I ofcourse, wouldnt buy it. But i would spend days looking at its videos. The MV cant beat the MPC. Not by a long shot. Why cant they face it and give up? Instead of making stupid MPC clones, they could make good synths with features such as disk streaming, harddrive support, etc.

AWESOME. Thanks for the info. We don't know that this new MV-8000 is the only product Roland will be releasing. Maybe there will be a new workstation. Who knows?

Anyway, I'm totally psyched about an update to the MV-8000. How cool.

"The MV cant beat the MPC. Not by a long shot. Why cant they face it and give up? Instead of making stupid MPC clones, they could make good synths with features such as disk streaming, harddrive support, etc."

You gotta be kiddin' me...clearly from your remark, you've never used either and if you have, you don't know how to use 'em. The only thing the MPC has over the MV is market proliferation. Roland served notice to Akai when the MV-8000 first dropped in 2003 and there's been a long legion of MPC users jumping ship who are now using this 'stupid' MPC clone.

And now because of the overwhelming success of the MV, Roland is coming out with the NEW and IMPROVED version of the MPC Killa' the MV8800 this winter at NAMM 07'. Also, not that I care or base my production or equipment purchases on what a well known and respected producer uses but even 'JUST BLAZE' (JayZ, Joe Budden, etc.) has ditched his MPC for software (Reason and Battery) and gave props to the dude ('Beatoven') who won the 'Scion' sponsored "King of the Beats" contest. The dude he beat by the way was using an MPC...Hmmm...

And even with the recent success of the Fantom X series of keyboards, its the MV that's had THE MOST success sales wise for Roland over the past 3 years. The Fantom X (and yes I do have the X8, MV8K and an Akai MPC2KXL) still trails the MOTIF and KORG Triton series of keyboards sales wise. Remember don't hate cause its "not your turn at bat". Stop cryin' for a new keyboard that won't make you any better than you already are. Cause remember, it still comes down to the musician behind the gear, not the other way around.

Calm down before you kill somebody sitting next to you. This is an internet forum. I was taking the piss (re the MPC).

Aside from all of the A/B comparisons, to my ears the MV has a really funky "feel" which, despite the MPC devotees' opinions to the contrary, is not present on the MPCs.

I agree regarding Roland having served notice to Akai when the MV first came out (2003). Unless Akai has something equally revolutionary (i.e. MPC 5000 or something), then Roland will continue to advance on them.

I think this new MV (if that's what it is) will have much more comprehensive computer interfacing, and obviously a color display. Hopefully it will have onboard ROM waves and be able to be played as a MIDI sound module in addition to the features it already has. That will make it a true "workstation". And don't forget the virtual analog. Hopefully something along the lines of the SH-201 with maybe 16 voices and 4 multi-timbral parts. Now that would be slick. And of course let it take a few SRX boards as well.

As I posted in the other thread, why does a "workstation" have to have a keyboard? Many of us have all the keyboards we need. Maybe it will have all of the workstation features without a keyboard. Maybe that's Roland's marketing angle. I think that's great!

The big difference between MV-8000 and MPC-2500/4000 is features. If you're doing hop hop by stealing and chopping sounds, you'll be okay with MPC. But if you want more, once you've grown off the MPC, you can't do much with it.

MV-8000 offers much more out-of-the-box-wise and sound-design-wise. It has
- more memory potential (which is DIMM, not proprietary and $$$)
- HD right in it (again, IDE you can replace not for much $$$)
- plus creative effects
- a VA synth (how's this?)
- a more intuitive interface

With iminent releases from both Yamaha and probably Korg, the Fantom X will look seriously outdated - something may be released for summer NAMM? The fantom's hardware definitely needs updating. Curious also about the SRX format also - this will also look outdated and expensive.

BTW artemio, I thought the top MPC had all of those things (with excpetion to a VA) and the OS is subjective ;¬) - plus there pads are awesome!

The Yamaha release does not destroy the X ... in fact, IMO, it achieves parity ... nothing to sell your workstation over ...

Korg could be another story ... but I'm not really expecting anything that will blow me away if they have to keep with the price/features structure of the OASYS.

BTW, the teaser says "it won't be in black & white". Could this mean the new piece of gear will have a color screen?

Yes, I think they are talking about a "no longer mochromatic screen for the MV".

Almost certainly it will have a color screen. I'm hoping it would also have the guts of the Fantom XR in it, along with let's say 2 SRX expansion. Now that would be a real workstation. Hook up the controller keyboard of your choice and go to town.

But knowing Roland, if it has any type of standard synthesizer built in, it will be a cut-down version such as one with 64 voices and/or only 64 megs of ram.

We'll have to see. I've been interested in the MV for a while, but just thinking Roland was going to update it last year, either at Winter NAMM 2006 or Summer NAMM 2006. Now that we know the update is coming, it's really exciting.

Parity? or Purity?

Achieves parity? What planet are you living in? I thought the Motif ES was more advanced than the Fantom X, esp with 8 dual inserts (16 effects) in song mode... and this new guy with super articulation, wave sequencing and VCM effects, 10 band vocoder, and all you can say is 'it achieves parity'?

Both Korg and Roland are known for electronic sounds while Yamaha is known for pop and acoustic sounds (even if the SY 99, AN1x, CS6x were super for electronic). The only thing Yamaha could achieve parity (and probably surpass the Fantom X) is with respect to electronic waveforms and filters.

Korg Triton Extreme which has only 3 filter types (LP, HP, BP) while Motif ES had some 18 filter types....Dave Polich, sound desinger for Yamaha said that the new baby will even have more filter options and excellent quality electronic sounds.

Only step back would be there is no physical modeling which Yamaha considers a niche market, (probably taking a look at Fantom-X synths which have only sample playback synthesis)

I think the biggest differences between the Big Three workstations are in overal taste and emphasis on what features are important. All do things the others don't. (That's what the workstation manufactueres are counting on as people often buy more than one.)

Anyway ...

The Yamaha still doesn't do audio tracks.

And it still sounds like a Motif, which isn't a big turn on for some folks who think it sounds like processed plastic.

For instance, Yamaha's new sampled grand piano will now only do what the Fantom X's has been doing for two years. Etc.

I'll agree that if I was buying a new workstation, I'd give the XS serious consideration ... but in the end, I don't really dig Motifs, and this one's just giving me lukewarm vibes ...

BTW, I'm living ON a planet ... not "in" one like yourself, I presume.

ANyway. Who cares>!>?
