Fantom-S and Fantom-X

Uses for RPS?

Uses for RPS?

I think it could be one of the most intresting things about the Fantom X/S -- the ability to record MIDI data into patterns or the sequencer to get various things done.

I'm still very fuzzy about the whole RPS thing, though.

The manual -- of course -- is never forthcoming about WHY or even WHAT you could use this feature for.

I read another thread in which Artemio explains how to mute and un-mute a track.

http://forums.rolandclan.info/index.php?action=show_thread&thread=14114&fid=1&page=1

But what else do you use it for? And do you use it with the pads?

I'm having a bit of a time harnassing the power of RPS. For me, things like changing/and/or/turning on/off patches would helpful.

I generally don't ask questions like this 'cause I guess its better to just figure it out yourself.

But still, if there's any knowledgeable samaritans or otherwise out there 'cause I also think this is one of the more complex Fantom issues out there.
Some tunes and whatnot ...

I'd like to know uses also. I have not touched the RPS button yet and it is one of the functions I'd like to know more about.
hi,
manuals miss out on a lot of details,
go to the roland page http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=589&ParentId=83

there are several videos - one of them explains the rps funktion

the fantom X truely is an amazing synth and has a lot of features,
the trick sometimes is to find out how to use them....

I also recommend to look deeper into the preset 60
Rnd Rhythm

I think its some sort of hybrid arranger type song recording system. Because since it works in patterns, say you have on pattern playing your verse, and another playin your fill, so in a way you build your song by patterns. Now, this is what I think. Honestly, im yet to use it too. But I really want to learn it too since i am a realtime recording player too.

I just started using RPS in live performance (playing in a dance classics band). For example: playing the piano parts in "we are family" keeps you pretty busy in the chorus of the song. However there also should be a very recognizable strings phrase in it... I recorded it and put it under a pad. It really works! Because it is a short phrase it isn't too sensible for little tempo differences (this may sound odd to you, but our drummer is not playing exactly the same bpm every time we play this song, tsss). For larger tempo differences I set the tempo tap function under 1 of the assignable buttons and can adjust the tempo of the phrase to what the drummers playing in just 3 taps.

I use them with program changes.
Once done, save the song with different program changes and put the song in live mode. (the green button)

When the song is loaded ,Activate the RPS,you can have up to 16 program changes.
Of course you can make control changes or Effect changes etc... (if you make a program change in a perf, be aware that effect of a patch doesn't change !!)
Also little phrases like Maureez Plays the Keez uses
are very handy.

I (ab)use RPS for all kinds of stuff but mainly for live playing performances in that I create a "dynamic" performance that can alter itself lightning fast. Ideal for playing medleys.

Be sure to check this out and to read my tutorial.

Also recently I discovered an anomaly (RPS status was actually saved along with the song as it should). I found the bit that was responsible for the RPS Status in an .SVQ file and created a batch file for supplying a directory full of .SVQ's with this beloved bit. Check it out here
