... between here and the fantomized.info. Is the V-Synth selling a lot less than tha FX/FS? Maybe the V-Synth is too 'wierd' for some people.. :-).

I know the local music stores here all used to have V-Synths on display, but not any more ("not selling well" was the common reason given)..overall I'm glad I got one.

Playing around with it more last night, I can already see it's got such a distinctive character, with the PCM synthesis and, sometimes, a characteristic 'zipper' or glitchy sound when a lot of the controllers are used (some people think this is bad, but it does give the board a unique character).

I can already see that this board is a MONSTER for ambient and abstract stuff; I can't imagine any other board I've seen doing what it does to a simple vocal phrase repeating.. makes for very hypnotic progressions.

I also managed to make a pretty convincing copy of the 'FatFifths' patch from my old JX-8P already using the analogue modelling.. something that I still haven't managed to do quite as closely on my Virus kb or the Fantom-X, even (probably a result of my limited programming skills more than a limit of the boards themselves, but still..) and the way the envelopes respond, with a bit of zipper-ness, even makes the reproduction that more authentic.

Fun fun!

Yeah, it seems the V-Synth isn't selling too well. At my local musicstore they told me they had only sold one unit so far, and that was this fall (!).

It indeed seems that people aren't aware of its possibilities. Or people just want to use presets on their synths. A shame.

Oh well, it just means in a few years, when you can't get them any more, everyone will wake up and say "OMG! I need one!". I hear the Korg Wavestation was like that -- wierd enough that it scared off people, now it's sought after, hah. Human nature is funny that way.

Yeah. I kind of regretted buyng the motif ES after becoming aware of the possibilities in the v-synth. Not that the ES is a bad synth, it's very ok, but traditional romplers can't at all do what the v-synth does.

But I sure hope roland won't discontinue the development of this technology cause of poor sales; a v-synth II would be very cool :D
Actually I'm waiting to after NAMM on buying the synth, in case something new is presented...

Yes, this place is not as busy as FZ.info. Consider that the V-Synth is only one synth, but we have S, S88, X6, X7, X8, XR and Xa discussed at FZ. Also, V-Tribe is only 4 months old, and yes, of course, V-Synth is much less widely spread as it is a special kind of synth, not an all-in-one stations like Fantom.

You are not the first person who says that the V-Synth doesn't seem to sell well, yet you are among so many people which say how amazing it is. Sounds like a real paradox.

However, it also reaaly looks like in some little while V-Synth will be a great classic like 808, 303, 101 and their brothers and sisters, considering it's truly unique sound and possibilities.

Yes, I think definately will become a classic. I remember when the vp9000 was released, it was highly praised by Future Music (I think it achieved a Platinum Award) and Sound On Sound.
So also for the V-Synth. One of the 'cons' in the SOS review was that it '...Has managed to reawaken my 'gear lust'' :)

SOS said : 'The sum of the parts adds up to the most groundbreaking Roland synth in years'.

i agree with hugo and art here, i kinda like the fact that its so unknown - its easier to get signature sounds

Yes, but at the same time it would be very cool if people bought it - it would encourage roland to develop it further, and, as you say, the sound will be unique anyway.

There will probably be a flurry of activity here if Roland launch more V cards at NAMM and even more posts if they don't ;-)
