Bangin Beats Drum Kits

Bangin Beats Drum Kits

13 Dec 2005, 10:49
I know this is probably an easy question to be answered, but I wanted to make sure I was going about it the right way...
How would I load some drum kits into my X7 (individually) from a Bangin' Beats CD Rom... I want to make my own patch from this CD Rom with all of the drum kits on it that I like... I believe the way I would do it is loading it up in the Fantom Library or Editor and then loading it up into the X7.... Or is there an easier way of doing this??? If im not making any sense, just let me know and I'll try to explain it better...

Damn... I knew it would be easy.... I thought I was going to have to sample each individual, which would of took away from its integrity.... Thanks Art...

Is that a CD-ROM or an audio CD? If it's an audio CD then you will indeed have to sample it into Fantom (you can use the "auto-divide" and "auto-trim" features though which are very useful). But if the CD has plain WAVE/AIFF files then it's darned easy.

Audio CDs ensure compatibility with samplers which don't read WAVE/AIFF formats. But for samplers which are any good it's of course much easier to use WAVE or AIFF libraries, so you don't have to chop the samples manually.

Hm, I wonder about this:

When I insert a Audio-CD into my Mac (running OS X10.4), open the CD to display its content, it shows my the audio files marked as *.aiff. Therefore I simply drag and drop a audio file to my desktop and have a true AIFF file. Without any conversion or extra step...

Does Linux or Windows offer something similar?

If im understanding correctly, yes windows does this with the media player.... It shows what tracks are on the cd and you can download it to the computer and put it in a folder to come back to it later and this is exactly what I wanted to do so that I would have the that exact sound without any added "air" or anything that you would get from sampling it... Once again thanks Art....

Hey Layz, do you make your drum kits before you load them into the fantom or do you make your kits on the fantom?

Everytime I try to make a kit on the fantom I have to load the samples for the kit each time I turn my fantom on. My problem is I dont remember what samples are in the kit so I have to load all samples which kills my memory when the time comes to save a song. Am I saving my kits right?

I load up all of my drum kits first... I use some of the kick drums from the fantom but i've sampled all of my snares, most of them are from DJ Premier (my mentor)... You have to label your drum kits and transfer it to a pc card... If you dont have one, I suggest you get one from Best Buy or Circuit City and you should also upgrade the memory on your board... I put a 512MB memory card in the board and a I have a 512MB Media card... As far as saving everytihng, once I name the track, I go to save/load and press F2 (Save the Song) and it saves everything... Unless you have some samples that you haven't saved yet then I just hit F1 (Save song and Samples) and this saves everything especially if you edited any of your samples to your song... I hope this helps, if not let me know... Peace
