Sample Glitch: Solved!

Sample Glitch: Solved!

6 Jul 2005, 18:49
Now that I got those first Summer session finals out of the way, I've had a little time to play around with my Fantom-S a bit.

It seems my previous problems with drum loops involved the "Gate" setting in the step sequencer. It seems to default to 80%, which on a four bar sample, chops off the upbeat of the last bar.

Changing the setting to 99% seems to make everything loop problem-free.

Well I've got the drum loop taken care of. All I need now is a song to go over it! Stay tuned...

Gladly:

The sample in question was four bars, 135bpm.

After importing it from my computer as per the instruction manual, these were the steps I followed:

-Selected the sample from the Sample List.
-Hit the Sample Edit button.
-Select Sample Paramaters, set Loop Mode to FWD, and change the tempo (to 135bpm in my case).
-Hit Reset Grid.
-Assign the sample to a key/pad with Assign KB/Pad

That takes care of the sample, now for the sequencing:

-Create a new song.
-Set the tempo the same as the sample (135bpm again in my case).
-Hit the Record button.
-Select Step Rec and then Note.
-Select the correct note length for your sample (Four bar measure = whole note, two bars = half note, etc.).
-Set Gate to 99%.
-Press the assigned pad/key a bunch of times.
-Pres Stop.

Now when you go back to the sequencer window and hit Play, the loop should play back just fine. Setting the gate percentage too short causes the sample to be chopped off, and setting it to 100% seems to occasionally cause glitches when it loops.

Hope that helps!
