Orwell,

i understand your anger, but at the same time, lets take try to show patience towards a newbie. He is obviously unaware of the posting rules, so let's educate him.

Kbone,
welcome to the fantomized forum. Please just post your question in one section. Posting the same question on multiple sections is of no use and as you can see, makes some folks angry (including me. :-) )

Hope you take this in a positive manner and participate in the forum.

kbone,

I deleted your duplicate posts. No problem, it's just considered standard etiquette to post in one section. This lends itself to a better continuity of responses to your post.

As sambasevam stated, welcome! (Actually, looks like you've posted before).

;-))))

Hopefully, someone will be able to help out.

kbone, the effect you are after was probably created with a vocoder. But you should be able to get something very similar to the vocal sound on "Computer Love" (also spread liberally across the whole "Computer World" album) by using a "Ring Modulator" which is somewhat similar in process to a vocoder.

:o)

Thanks everyone. I did'nt mean to post everywhere as if I was spaming. I was just trying to get my question answered promptly. It's funny how just a few text can upset a mans heart. Anyways, I will work with the ring modulator and see what i can come up with. Any further suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Way, way back, I used to own a Roland Boss Flanger pedal. If you plugged a mic into it and played around with the depth and faster flange rates, you could come up with some pretty amazing computer vocal effects. Couple this with a delay and a ring modulator and you have some interesting possibilities. E.G. Try choosing "Flanger" as your MFX. Set your rate at it's highest setting.(On the X8, it is a triplet 64th note) Furthur rate changes can be made using your tempo settings. Set your balance to a totally wet signal to start. Feedback at 0%. Mid depth settings. Experiment from there.
Good luck! Hope you find what you're looking for. :)

Heil Talk Box

28 Jun 2005, 14:53
Actually guys, that is the infamous Heil Talk Box used by Roger Troutman. I love that sound. I bought the Digitech Talker, which is a pretty good replication of it, and it's relatively simple to use. I'm not sure if they make them anymore but you can pick them up at a pawn shop or ebay for around $150-200. Good Luck and Happy talk boxing!!

Yeah sir, that is exactly it, I will say, it does take quite a bit of practice and it can be a lil messy having that tube in your mouth. I suggest taping the tube to the mic, so U don't have to hold it in your mouth with your hands. If you can find a digitech talker, it sounds really good, is simple to use, and no mess. Good Luck Talk Boxing!

Chris, I don't think a Talk Box was used at all on "Computer World". AFAIK, Kraftwerk have never used a Talk Box.

Many of the monotone "Speak&Spell" style words were produced using a Texas Instruments language translator http://kraftwerk.hu/faq/translator.jpg and the processed human voices were created with one of the many vocoders they collected over the years: Roland SVC-350, Roland VP-330, Sennheiser VSM-201, EMS 2000/3000/5000 series and Synton 221, and was probably the EMS (Synthi) vocoder used on Computer world.

A. Yes it is. It is a standard that we moderators adhere to so that the poster knows a moderator has moved their thread (as opposed to any other odd goings-on).
B. Since this thread is a mixture of internal effects, external gear and Kraftwerk discussions, I beleive Nate put it in the most suitable location.
C. Chill...

I reccomend to try to get out something also from guitaramps/distortion/fuzz/Try to connect mic, trough simple guitar pedal putting some effect on your voice...or if you don't own pedal, then put digital effect on it ;) sometimes it sounds really interesting ;)
