but is it not the case with piano sounds that each note is using only 1 of the 4 tones depending on how hard you hit it. I know there may be some crossfading at certain velocities but that would only use 2 tones.

Or is it because the patch has 4 tones switched on, it makes no difference wether they are sounding or not?

I suppose it only counts the sounding tones...

Hobo:

If a patch crossswitches, it should only use 1 voice per note played.

If it uses crossfading it will use 2 or more voices per note played.

Double these amounts if stereo samples are used.
