Expanding Memory

Expanding Memory

Hi

Anyone in the UK who has expanded the system RAM - can you let me know where you bought it from and whether you used 100mhz or 133mhz. Having never done this sort of thing before and taking notice of the statement in the manual about not all types working, i'm a bit nervous.

Thanks

you want to use pc133. DIMM

it's as easy as dropping more ram in your computer.

Kingston is my favorite brand. Super relieable manufacturing plus they treat their employees well...(thanks MGMT 400 case study :))

My favourite brand is Samsung. Samsung modules work fine in my PC and FS for about 4 years.

On the X6 & X7 there is a metal plate underneath, undo the screws and you'll find 4 SRX slots and a DIMM RAM slot... pop the RAM stick in and your memory is expanded. The X8 has the same but the panel is on the top. Check the manual, page 244.

Having the same kind of q's as above.
Would this be allright?

Kingston 512MB PC133 DIMM CL3

Type: DRAM
Technology: SDRAM
Form Factor: DIMM 168-PIN
Memory Speed: 133 MHz ( PC133 )
CAS Latency: CL3
Data Integrity Check: Non-ECC
Module Configuration: 16 x 64
Supply Voltage: 3.3 V
Lead Plating: Gold

What's the difference between RAM and SDRAM?

Pikmik, yes, that Kingston DIMM should work just fine.

SDRAM, unlike older forms of Ram (EDO,etc.), synchronizes with the CPU bus speed (typically 100mhz when it was introduced) in the PC. This allows it to run faster than previous types of RAM storage. It's fairly common these days. . . . . . . .and works great in the Fantom.

Thanks for the clarifications!

I just want get the right kind of DIMM expansion, because my local computerstore doesn't offer refunds for any memorycomponents.

Some 512Mb PC133 memory is listed as "64x4" and some as "64x8." Does anyone know if that matters relative to using it in the XR?

Thanks~
