Fantom 8 and Logic Pro X
2 Feb 2023, 10:17I am new to Roland and Fantom technology. Here is the problem I am having getting Roland Fantom 8 and Apple Logic Pro X integration. I have connected Fantom to my Apple Mac via USB out from Fantom rear port labelled “Computer” and USB in to Mac. No other connection exists between Fantom and the MAC. My MAC is connected to Apogee Ensemble audio interface and all sound monitoring in the studio is through Apogee Ensemble. I have latest drivers installed for Roland Fantom on my MAC including the USB driver and other packages like Logic Pro X template and Mainstage 3 template which I downloaded from Roland official website. Both MAC and Logic Pro X are running latest updated versions. Roland Fantom is recognised as a midi control surface inside Logix Pro X. When I create a new project in Logic Pro X, I use audio settings where I choose “Roland Fantom 06/07/08” as the input device and “Apogee Ensemble” as the output device. When I play keys on Fantom 8, I can see meters move on both the Apogee Ensemble inputs and Logic Pro X channel strip (audio input 1/2). However the Logic Pro X channel strip receiving audio signal from Roland Fantom 8, does not output the sound to Logic Pro X master buss stereo out and hence no sound can be heard in the speakers/monitors connected to “Apogee Ensemble”, which I had chosen as the output device in Logic preferences and project audio settings. Without being able to hear the sound of Roland Fantom 8 via Logic Pro X, I am unable to handle any audio coming out of Fantom even if it is being listened to by Logic Pro X, evidenced from the channel strip meter movements. I do not have this problem when I set Fantom up as an external midi instrument in Logic Pro X. However, the external midi instrument channel strip, although recognises both midi and audio data inside Logic Pro X, it still does not allow audio recording as explained by Ed in his tutorial video on the Youtube channel (How to Record Audio via USB in Logic) on Fantom series.
