32 MEASURE LIMIT!!!!????!!!!

32 MEASURE LIMIT!!!!????!!!!

Well, well ,well why do they always have to monkey with MIDI? how could they posssssiby think that there should be a limitation on the number of measures to an imported song? Maybe I am saying it wrong. Maybe I should say importing a midi song is not possible, only importing patterns 32 measures or less. If there are any workarounds, I would like a straight answer rather than poetic hyperbole. With the fantom G - it was the 50 song limit... another dumb oversight, now this!

So my question is am i right that importing a midi song is not possible with the fantom 6/7/8 which is listed starting at $3,399?

another question, so I give in and decide to record my longer songs from scratch. Does this 32 limit exist within the sequencer, or can my songs be longer? I am almost afraid to hear the answer. Remember phrases with the fantom G? I still don't understand them!

Because it’s locked to the “loops” system and they’ve set a limit of 32 for the length of a loop. Personally I wish it would just automatically set the loop length to what you import or record and allow any loop length, it’s not like it takes up much memory.

Not wishing to teach any 'grannys' how to suck eggs but rather than banging my head agains the (brick) wall limit of 32 measures , I arrange my midi sequence in a DAW (Sonar) , save it in recognisable sections eg Intro , Verse 1 , Chorus etc., them import these into individual Pattern rows / Groups to re-assemble the Song. Not saying it's straight forward or ideal , but it can be made to work.

So this is my first few days owning the Fantom 6. I really was not aware that all recorded songs must be split into 32 measure sections. That might have been a deal breaker for me. I guess i can load the midi file into a daw and split it up like mentioned in the comment above, but what does that mean for recording directly into the keyboard? Does it stop on measure 33? Are all songs considered loops? I'm confused so if I sat down to record a song... it stops me at measure 33???????

I use my fantom for live performance over whole midi songs and loops. I found this out when i went to import a smf file from my fantom g.

I'm still trying to get my head around this problem, and I'm not sure how big the problem is. I also perform improvised pieces that don't necessarily fit into "groups" like A B C D . I guess those can olnly be 32 measure or less? wowsers, I'm sooo confused.

I mean midi files are so small - the whole idea of midi is to provide a compact way of transferring music. this is whacky...

to be fair - I just noticed that when you import a midi file into pattern, you can specify a starting point... so it is still inconvenient that you need to re-assemble the song before you can play it, but at least you don't have to chop it up in a daw first, you can import 1-32 to A, then import 33-64 to B, then 65-97 to C , etc

I had noticed the Import From 'button' but was so into the chopping procedure that I hadn't even considered trying it ! Duuhh .

Hey Roland! Forget the sexy features and concentrate of fixing the obvious impediments to our making music.
Is there even another workstation on the planet that has this limitation?
After all, you are calling this a Fantom. Respect the history.
End of rant.

FULLY AGREE!
Its ridiculous that I have to create my songs in Logic because of the 32 measure limit !!

right...and for those of us who still use their master keyboard as their sequencer, this is the reason I have not gotten the newer Fantom yet....
