Will 909 day (2018) bring anything exciting?

Will 909 day (2018) bring anything exciting?

It's just a couple of days away.

808 day didn't give us much, except some naff looking trainers !

.... as winter is approaching, at least here in the Northern hemisphere, perhaps we'll get some TR-909 inspired gloves, hats and scarves !

Expecting...... nothing.

That way if there is something, it'll be a nice surprise.

If there was ever a company that's out of loop with what its consumers want its name is Roland.

Yes, it's so easy to complain.

Did no one notice that they will be announcing three new products on Sept. 13?
("in the drums and synths categories")

Stay positive people - Roland is still a great company as evidenced by the Boutiques, the System 500, the TR-8S, etc. etc.

Let's wait to see what they have on offer on September 13.

How to notice ? Nothing on the Roland global, US or Aira page.
Not much too big news then ?
A few new SPD:One pads perhaps or a repaint of a legacy product in Aira colors ?

Scroll down for the announcement.
This info in on all major gear news sites as well, GearNews, Synthtopia etc. etc.

Let's try to keep it positive, since we don't really have any idea what they will announce - why be grumpy?

It's Roland their just going to announce some new VST's for Roland Cloud!

New Synths for Roland Cloud JX8P & Roland JD-800 !!!

New Drum machine! Roland TR-8S VST for your Ipad!

Roland hasn't been Roland since the 90's back when they used to put out gear that mattered. The only reason their name is still relevant is because of those ground breaking synths, drum machines & groove stations they made in the 80's and 90's and they're still stuck in limbo just making modern hack jobs of those classic machines. Just the fact that the JDXA and the System 8 exists at the same time tells me Roland has no clue as to the direction they want their synths to go in.

At best I expect a TR8S-R where you can finally Record Samples. I've been a long time Roland fan and I've been optimistic since forever but Behringer has proved that they're better at being Roland than Roland presently is. If anything the Deepmind 12 should of been a wake up call to Roland. They struck gold by accident with the Boutiques only because small and affordable sound modules are a trend. I say if Dave Smith can go back and take his Prophet and revamp it to a Rev 2 where they modernized and improved everything over the original than Roland can certainly take a Jupiter 8, JX, or Juno modernize it and make a Jupiter 9, JX16P or a Juno 206. It's like Roland can't figure out why people are willing to pay 1-3K for their old ANALOG synths and drum machines. It's because people want that OLD Roland Analog sound. Yet Roland keeps pushing stuff that nobody even asked for and at the same time they're not really making anything new either. How many ACB/Digital/VST versions of their old synths can they possibly try to make?

Atleast 90's Roland was making new synths that had new sounds. I just wish this company got it's mojo back to start creating stuff we HAVEN'T seen before. The Arturia Matrixbrute, Dreadbox Medusa and such I mean synths like that is the type of creativity Roland USED to have to push something entirely new and different out. I can't think of a single piece of gear in their current line up that has me thinking "I wish I had one of those".

Roland hasn't been Roland since the 90's...
OK, well I see my idea of keeping it positive and not being grumpy was not a winning suggestion!

The biggest mistake Roland has made lately is the start of "celebrating" those 303,606,808,909 days.
Now everybody seems to expect that they will bring out a completely new and unexpected monster synth on each of those days...

Looks like it's just some kids drums, a keytar and a wide Juno DS

Glad I don't have to be tempted by a new Boutique ;-)

Well they didn't release anything studio worthy. New entry level synth, V-drum kit and best of all the AX-EDGE.

The AX-EDGE seems to correct all the issues with the AX-Synth mainly battery life and all the batteries you needed for it. You get more sounds and effects and the sound editor. I will say this though if there was one product that Roland should of dumped their ACB tech into it's their Keytar. Never had as much fun with the stock sounds but midi'd to the boutiques it's a lot more fun to play. Curious to see the sounds and sounds modeling they added to the EDGE. Probably not so interesting to everyone else unless you like playing keytars.

Big Nothing-Burger..... oh well.

The only thing that sucks is it seems the boutique line is indeed finished.

Say it isn't so Roland!!!

I really wasn't expecting anything mind blowing. Seems like if they were planing a jaw dropping release they'd do it a NAMM or some other big event. They barely even announced this new gear so that seemed to say enough about what was coming out. They know this isn't going to be "main line" stuff but just some gear to keep the sales rolling in for the company. When Roland drops a release they usually go all out with a full on campaign. I think they're done for 2018. 2019 should be the year when they drop their next hit. I would like to see them give the Jupiter another go and I don't mean the 8 I mean the 80. The Jupiter 80 was really something nice but needed a bit more to work to perfect it. If they made a Jupiter 90 I'd be in line for that.
