hi, can this be done?

no sounds from the JDXI, just playing a VST in a DAW?

absolutely mate!

Either USB or Midi 5 din works just fine :) i use Ableton, it records 4 channels of midi and also the main audio coming out if you like, its pretty awesome ;) it doesn't do transport controls i don't think but I'm not experienced with midi and still learning how to set all that stuff up.

There's an option in the system menu, labeled (a bit cryptic maybe) "internal switch". When set to off it doesn't output any audio just MIDI :)
