Roland pedal malfunction

Does anyone know what would cause a Roland sustain pedal to cut in and intermittently sustain notes. That's the problem I'm having using it with my Fantom X8. The pedal is a Roland DP10.

I think a bad cable would do that. I opened mine up and cut off about 4 inches and soldered it back together and then it worked fine.

It very well could be that. I have not moved the pedal in years though because it's in my little studio and it's weird how it just started doing it intermittently and so subtlety that I actually though it was me pressing the pedal unconsciously at first. I later found out that wasn't the case because I was paying close attention and took my hands off of the keyboard and noticed the sustain. I plugged in an m-audio pedal and it's been working fine. Thank you for the reply howardS. If anyone else has any theories, I'd like to hear them.
