New Roland Synthesizer Workstation Coming at Namm 2014

As its Integra based, does this mean no user sample import to the main synth engine?
This would be a retrograde step from the Fantom G, and would render the FA useless to me.

Also, the sample section seems to allow a number banks of 16 samples to be loaded per song, but the videos I have seen clearly state that only 4 can be triggered at a time.

Sampling appears to be tagged on rather than fully integrated. I hope I am totally wrong on this.

No, it's a sample player like the SP series. Many samples can be loaded but only 4 playing at a given time.

Yeah, this isnt the $4000+ mega beast everyone was expecting. It sure seems to be loaded with features players are asking about...light weight, great sounds, 16 parts, nice display, realtime controls and reasonable price. It does have virtual analog synthesis - something MOXF & Krome do not. Clearly it's not a "flagship" or designed to compete with Kronos & Jupiter but it fits a nice niche unavailable up until today. I think Roland has a winner on their hands with FA series.

Coldmachine
As far as I understand, it imports also samples. In one of the vids the guy says it clearly.
You can sample through the mike or line input for further using: back vocals etc.

Yes I realize that it imports samples.

What Im saying is that it appears like a simple sample player, as Denvor says above. Not fully integrated, and not allowing user samples to be used as sources within the synth engine.

This alone, for me personally, makes it inferior to the Fantom G.

After a little more reading my feelings remain the same. It may become a big seller, but at this point Roland has a big hole in their product line. As a result they are alienating a certain segment of the music community. Perhaps that segment isn’t big enough to generate the ROI any longer. Fortunately there are other manufacturers that fill that void. For me, Roland made a potentially difficult decision very easy, and it doesn’t include Roland.

Wait, let me guess: Korg? LOL

The idea Roland is "alienating" users is a bit mellodramatic. To borrow a line from King Crimson, "the more I look at it the more I like it". A ton of features packed into that thing for $1299 US.

The specs are far from complete.
I'm interested in learning more about the details but there seems to be no online documentation available yet.

The last link is quite interesting. It's about sampling.

The last link seems to confirm my fears. Sampling appears to be tagged on and very limited indeed. Its looks like its totally restricted to simple triggering, and not part of the synth engine.

A real pity as this had so much potential.

Well, it's said based on the SP-404SX. I don't know about it. It seems to have a "full editing" menu though.
But we couldn't have everything at that price. Anyway, how many of us did use thoroughly the synth engine in the FG? I didn't.
If it doesn't meet your needs, better to keep the FG.
