Is WAVE SHAPE oscillator sync?...

Is WAVE SHAPE oscillator sync?...

I've often complained about the lack of oscillator sync in the JP-80.

But yesterday, as I was doing some editing, I started to fiddle with the WAVE SHAPE parameter, and it exhibits some of the trademark sync sounds.

The manual says:

"Partial 1 will be modulated by the pitch of partial 2."

My question: is this oscillator sync, and if it is, why isn't it called oscillator sync?!!!

Thanks.

It's the principal of sync and it sounds like sync too! Great you noticed, think I can use this with recreating Jupiter 8 sounds a bit better for some of our 'fly in' live shows... Some sounds can be recreated very well, though the filters still sound too digital (harsh) Think this machine would be perfect when having the choice of using an analog filter too and some real nice (tube) amping like on the King Korg

And to answer the initial question why they don't call it wave shaping, it could be because it's a little bit different, while you can also adjust the 'amount' of the sync effect. Pretty cool, still not as good sounding as the JP 8 sync (bit thin, harsh).
