Band Rant

Please tell:

1. ...my guitar player to play right parts (you know, the one we practice every week and that sound great at rehersal)

2. ...the chick singers to shut the hell up about the volume of the band. Sorry drums don't have volume knobs.

3. ...the band leader to actually show up on time to rehersal and gigs.

4. ...the soundman (guitar player) that you don't set an EQ by raising each fader until it squeeeals, then drop it a hair.

I love number 4. The squeal technique is valid, but he should raise the overal gain to find the hot spots, then identify that pitch and reduce the gain on that band. Always start flat, and try to cut, not add.

Number 3. Tell the band leader that until he decides to show up consistently on time, You will be there X amount of minutes after the appointed to ensure that he doesn't waste your time. No melodramatics, no smart-assing, just do it.

Number 2. This might deserve some attention. Drums don't have volume knobs, but they are still dynamic instruments. He can play lower. And they can invest in good quality attenuating ear plugs. http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/erme.asp
