RAM boost

i am thinking of upgrading the SAMPLE ram in my FS.

i have a small doubt : is the RAM the same as the one in the computer or is it a special one? cos if its PC's RAM, i can buy a cheap one for 10 US$$

also my DAD says that i shouldnt open the keyboard since it will get damaged or something.

is it soo complicated or can i do it myself?

I upgraded both my F-S88 and F-X8 to the max (544MB RAM). You can purchase standard PC RAM, but it must meet the specifications (size, power, and pin configuration) listed in the back of the manual. It isn't hard (just make sure you ground yourself before handling the RAM). All the Fantoms are meant to be opened for this purpose.

My X8 manual lists: 168 pin, 100 MHz PC100 (CL=2) or 133 MHz PC133 (CL=3), 3.3 Volt, 64/128/256/512 MB, 38mm board height or less (low-profile).

now, WOW, how come you own both the FS88 AND FX8!

i thought the FX is better than the FS in many ways and so that itself would be enough. !!!

He didn't say that he owned them at the same time.

By the way, the RAM slot is behind a panel on the bottom of the keyboard (or top on the FS88). You are not opening the keyboard as such, just remove the expansion panel. It's the same panel you remove to insert SRX expansions.

Just follow the instructions in the back of the manual.

Thanks for the assist! I sold my S88 when the X8 was released. Currently I have only two physical synths: X8 and V-Synth, but have owned lots in the past.
