Is it possible to simultaneously record several external MIDI tracks as audio in the fantom g sequencer as you would with a computer daw?

Resample?

simultaneously? meaning... I have several midi tracks that are triggering parts from external synths.... I'd like to be able to record the audio from all those external parts in one pass..... (like we do in DAWS....)

I suppose if you had a mixer and could route all the external audio back into the G's input, it's feasible. Not sure what the benefit would be tho.

I initially thought you might be meaning the G would be doing all the playback, hence resampling. Recording the audio inputs you'd have to go the traditional route.

I do have a mixer, but routing the external audio back into the fantom g would have everything (all external audio) on ONE track... i'm trying to record 4 or 5 midi tracks AS AUDIO ON THEIR OWN AUDIO TRACK.... without doing it one at a time... the most I think can be done is 2 at a time (a L & R) signal... but now that I think a little more about that... that won't work either because you can't assign the input as L on one track and then R as the input on another track.... (it's either stereo or just L) and even then, you can only pick one at a time.

Apex,
you really know how to ask difficult questions.
I mean, in the meantime you have probably observed that the FG has two (2) inputs. So, the logic says that you can't record more than that. It's either 2 (as stereo) or one. Not 3 and not 4 or 5.
The number of track which can be recorded by a DAW depends also on the soundcard used. If you have a two input soundcard, that's the max available track count you're able to record at once.

There's a bigger question here too; why do you want them all in audio?

Aside from the obvious glaring back at us, is there another reason? Maybe you've been listening to Artemiy too much. ;-) He loves his audio tracks.

Seriously tho, there are a few ways to get where you might want to go. The first that comes to mind is simply multiple takes. If I had to guess, you haven't bought an interface for your new DAW yet.

well excuse my hard question.... (do i really ask that many "hard" questions.... would it be better if I asked "easy" questions...

And if you'd have read, you would have seen that I ended up coming to that conclusion about the inputs....

the reason was because if I'm at home making backing tracks and I don't want to take the external modules with me, then I'd have the tracks as audio and not midi....

Hi Apex, I think you have probably answered your own question (ie No - due to limitation on inputs - which can equally apply to DAWs - I only have 2 on my Apogee Duet). You either compromise, sub mix and record on one pass / stereo track (no ability to re mix externally sourced tracks is the compromise) or you have to make several passes. It might be worth noting that your project sizes / load times will grow significantly with all this audio data. If you do have access to a DAW with a soundcard with heaps of inputs, you could record through the DAW in one pass on several tracks and then import the audio tracks into the Fantom. not sure this would be worth the effort but that would be your decision,

yeah... just started thinking about it. I'm going to do it in the daw, then route the complete stereo file into the fantom. I'll have the individual parts on the computer (in case they need editing later on) and I'll still obtain my goal of not having to take modules just to get certain sounds in my mix.

thanks for all that contributed... (kinda helped me sort through the process on my own)
