Suggestions for replacing MC909/Korg Triton combo with a Rol

Hey there, first of all thanks for taking the time to read my post. I have recently been thinking about replacing most of my gear (much of it which does not get used live) with a one-stop workstation. Right now I use my MC909 for the beats, and the sequencing of other instruments (strings, bass, etc) while I loop my guitar/Korg Triton LE over top using a midi enabled Gibson Echoplex.

I don't really do anything too far stretched but thought it would be nice to go to gigs with one piece that might be able to take care of everything. Any suggestions? I hear of the bugs that are a factor on the Fantom X series, but with what I would be using it for are those bugs anymore problematic than the ones on the MC909?

Basically I would like the most cost efficient way of replacing my MC909/Korg Triton combo with a single Roland product. Is it worth trading them both in towards a new Roland workstation? I appreciate any help or advice that can be shot my way!!! Thanks!!!

BP

well it sounds like your setup allows flexibility to do whatever you wish. the sounds in the triton may be a bit dated. i find an all in one solution to be a little faster/more efficient after the learning curve. its hard to say. i sold my old triton for $500 and picked up a used G6 they can be had all day for around $1500. im happy with the decision. it keeps me more focused. rather than having to play around with the MIDI of multiple machines. the phrase organization on the G is nice.

jkomp316 has a good point: having one more powerful device is better than two with different sound engines. Much less wires and setup procedures to step into your creative workflow.

Hi Brian, I don't know the drum sounds of MC909 in detail, but I also use a seperate device (MC808) as Fantom G definitely doesn't have a wide variety of great drum sounds (for my needs). Or you have to update with Art's drums expansion.

I had an MPC 5000, Maschine, and an MV 8800 along with a Korg M3. I sold them all to get my Roland Fantom G8. I wouldn't trade it. Also, Artemiy lead me to a good thing to use with the G, an IPod Touch or IPad. Either is great and you get so many apps. Artemiy is the man!

the fg will replace all that kit and more. it is superb when you fully understand it. if you are really fussy about your drum sounds, get the ARX01. you can make any drum sound with that. the" fantom g pack" from sinevibes is full of brilliant sounds and is an essential no brainier. it also takes up no sample memory.

The Fantom G can do the job, problem is you'll have too learn the instrument and develop new workflows, but as said before, once you do learn it, it will be your goto instrument.

My only advice would be to keep what you've got, bring in the FG and start working from there. Of course keeping your older equipment is not always an option.
