FG Connects - Copy ALL Tracks problem...

13 May 2009, 01:53
I loaded the new FG Connects project, and was working on a song, using one of the templates.

When I go to copy "ALL" tracks, only the rhythm track copies.

What I am doing...

Song Util > Track Edit Copy

Source = ALL
Src Meas = 4
For = ALL
Dst Meas = END
Copy Times = 4

I remember being able to copy -ALL- tracks at once, for as many measures as I chose?

I must have forgotten something, or is it possible there is a bug?

On a side note, on the first FG Connects version, I was not able to save any audio for some reason. Midi was no problem, but audio tracks would not save. I could record them, but when I went to save them, the Board froze up.

I didn't have any of these issues with the original project stored internally.

What am I doing wrong?

I don't have FG Connects, but remember, Track Edit Copy only applies to whole phrases, not measures within phrases. If the left boundary (start) of a phrase isn't within the source measure selection, the phrase won't copy.

Samples and audio tracks won't save to USB flash drives over 2GB unless you've updated the Fantom-G to version 1.20. Backup your internal project to a 2GB flash drive, update the FG to 1.20, perform a factory reset, and all should be fine.

Yay!!! That "should" be the problem! I'll check that out tonight. I seem to remember that when I was successful with this previously, yes, everything on each track was the same number of measures that I was copying. So I am pretty sure this will be the problem. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Saved me alot of work, since I would likely have done everything manually until I figured this out!

I have OS 1.20 installed, factory reset and all. I'm using an 8gb Flash - I don't remember what the USB limitation is, but I can load projects from the flash drive with no problem, so it is reading it. But this may have more to do with a no-no I did early on, which was cut and pasting folders through computer USB. I think the manual says not to do this, and I probably, messed something up. Things loaded slower after that. But with the new FGConnects, I saved everything and did a factory reset before installing the new FGConnects. So maybe it will all work for me now? I'll find out today or tomorrow. LOL

Thanks again for the help!

About the sample save problem, even if you have updated to version 1.20, some USB sticks can be incompatible with the Fantom-G. The most common incompatibility is to not save user samples within projects. You can look at this thread to look which USB sticks are tested and fully compatible.

Ok, well I guess I need to get a new USB flash drive :-(

Did an audio track and got the dreaded "Memory Full" again.

I wonder why saving projects themselves is not an issue, but only saving audio is the problem?

Someone said they thought that "any" Kingston USB flash drive would work. Anyone have good luck with Kingston?

Also...

Should I limit it to 2gigs or 4? Or should that not be a problem, as long as the Fantom likes the card?

Thanks in advance!

Check the USB stick compatibility thread:
Which USB drives/ 1GB RAM DIMMs work with the Fantom G?

Lately I got myself this one:
Sony Micro Vault Click Excellence 8GB

It saves everything ok and it's really fast. It's 8GBytes big, so there is not really an upper limit of 2 or 4GBytes, as long the Fantom-G likes the drive.

That's good to know about 8 gig not being a problem! And I'm going to check out the one you mentioned.

IF YOU GET A "MEMORY FULL" PROMPT:

It is usually because you have loaded a project from an external USB flash drive, then removed the USB drive from the Fantom-G's memory port, then attempt to perform a Save or Save As (with no USB drive connected.)

You must keep the USB drive connected to the Fantom-G if you are working on a project that is on that drive. (It is no different then connecting an external drive to your computer, loading some document from it, removing it, then trying to save it. Your computer is going to ask where the drive went and want to do.)

craigmaxim, I've read a lot of your posts and please, take the time to go and look through my YouTube channel. Most your questions can be answered there. You can even make suggestions for topics for me to cover if you find there's not a video there that answers your question.

Dan,

Thanks, but I would never try and save something without the flash drive connected unless I was using the project from internal memory, and saving back to the Internal memory.

And your videos RAAAAAWWWWK!!!!

I've seen most of them, and refer back to them often if I forget anything the first time. I've learned more from your videos than anything else really. They are a lifesaver.

In fact, I don't care what religion you are, I think God should give you 5 virgins for your efforts anyway! ;-)

But seriously, you help so many people.

THANK YOU!
