any VP-9000 user out there?

any VP-9000 user out there?

Im interested in that piece,im wondering what the fidelity would be though, and the price is so high,i don't want to take a chance yet,but it intrigues me and the reviews are usually very good, would the quality be something like an MP3?Or like an LP? 44.1 they say,but my SP-808 cant be layered without significant digital artifacts, and robot sounding bit cannabilizing phasing.Let me know if your a fan of the VP-9000 and how the time stretching feature sounds quality wise.

I would really recommend you to get the first V-Synth, it will not be that more expensive than a VP-9000, but has all the features and then some - it's a full-blown semi-modular synth with VA, VariPhrase and COSM technologies. And with OS 2.0 it's even more amazing.

Thanks Artemiy,i have 5 full keyboards already however, and no room to add another,if i had my way i would definitely trade in my ensoniq FIZMO towards one.Im trying to unload it now,but there doesn't seem to be much interest in a FIZMO out there, but it really is unique.

I was just going to suggest that myself - the XT is the perfect solution for you! And not only it's even more compact than the VP-9000, it also has the D-50 and vocoder systems built-in... amazing!

I haven't seen a VP9000 on ebay recently, but the last time I saw one listed it was very cheap: $150. So if you are after the sample manipulation more than the addition of analog synthesis or in the case of the XT and GT Vocal designer and AP synthesis, you might consider the VP9000. The Variphrase portion of the VP9000 is identical to the other models. Things to consider though: it does not have any filters and it only has 6 voice polyphony. This might not be an issue if you are just going to use it for sample playback mainly. The Vp9000 allows you to expand the RAM to 136 mb (it comes with 8). The V-Synth has 50mb and no expansion. As to the quality of the time stretching. It is quite good to a point. If you go too far from your original sample time you will get artifacts. Also some types of sounds stretch better than others. The V-Synth, XT, and GT models have not improved in this area over the VP9000. I have had times where the encoding process locks up on the VP9000 if I try to encode something that throws it off. It doesn't happen a lot but it does happen. I've never had it happen on my V-Synth.

I think it is well worth picking up the VP9000 if you can get it for $150. or less (it listed for over $3200. when it first came out!). Otherwise I think a used V-Synth is a great value if you don't care about the Vocal Designer or D-50 options. It gives numerous more ways to manipulate the sound through structures and COSM filters that the VP9000 can't do. I've heard of people finding a used one for as low as $750. though that's probably not typical.

I wish I had a second one to trade for your Fizmo. I've always wanted a Fizmo but can never be in the right place at the right time to get one.

thanks for the input,i will indeed check into the XT,and if you have anything else you might consider trading for my FIZMO than your more than welcome to list what you might have,i thought i would fall in love with the FIZMO but really,it is a very quirky synthesizer,i find it works best when i stack it with my other synth's and run better arpeggios from my emu's,it reacts well to a midi controller put it that way,the fun is the surprising things it comes up with reacting to those external midi controllers, then it comes to life.Otherwise, you would definitely not be impressed with its presets. And i really like my Roland SH-32 better for sound shaping, its like a table top jp8000,and my Korg Karma is also pretty incredible sounding.Again thanks for the suggestions and i will play around with an XT,and check the available balance on my credit cards.

Oh i forgot,i just saw 2 VP-9000's on ebay, one of them was a floor model, and i think they were going for less than 700$ more like 500$ But one looked like it was in poor condition-the floor model, sometimes you never know how long they have been left on and what they have been through in the music store.

I was going to suggest the XT myself! It is a much better investment than the VP-9000, as it has so much more capabilities. Plus it has the D-50 and vocoder expansion cards as well, and it's super-compact and very easy to use.

absolutely, and also i now have a G-33 and a roland ready fender strat, and of course i can upgrade there too,but i really think, and not too many people agree on this, but i think the Roland G-33 tracks perfectly,so i was wondering about the guitar modeling module,if that sounds realistic or not,i have not played around with one yet.
