Fantom X - MIDI USB Latency

Fantom X - MIDI USB Latency

19 Jan 2009, 10:00
Hi. I am willing to use a MIDI-USB interface cable, to connect my Fantom to my laptop. I have to use this type of cable because the the MIDI USB through USB common cable stopped working.

I phoned some music store asking for the MIDI USB interface cable, 16 channels, and they told me that if I use the ordinary, on board sound board, I will have a lot of latency because I need ASIO compatibility.

Is that true?

do you have latency?

I don't have a sound board, and I thought that all the fantom drivers thorugh midi-usb would not work with latency. But what's up?

Ideas?

This would be true if you were using your Fantom as a controller, sending midi info to vsts in realtime. If that were the case you'd absolutely need some sort of ASIO capability, or the latency of the audio plugins would be unplayable. That's probably what the music store thought you meant.

However, simply sending and receiving midi over USB has a negligible latency. Definitely not anything to worry about.

Hi, thanks for the answer. The only use I want to give it, is to edit patches and use the fantom x editor, and fantom x librarian

So will it be OK only with the MIDI USB interface cable?

Sorry I was missing the question mark.

I repeat it in any case: I want to use the MIDI USB cable for patch editing on the computer and using the librarian software

Will it be OK then?
