External only sequencer

External only sequencer

Here we go, I am trying to use the X6 as a sound module, MIDI controller and a sequencer. Okay I am sequencing the internal Fantom sound engine on tracks 1-5 but on track 6 I wanna use an external module but I don't want the Fantom's internal sound to be triggered simultaneously on track 6. So how do I stop the Fantom from triggering its internal sounds only on track 6? I am trying to do this via USB. I think it is supposed to be something about EXT (external) but I do not know where to access this?

Hi, you might assign an empty patch to track 6. Just edit a patch and switch all 4 tones off.

By the way, if you edit a patch and assign no tones at all (provided is possible, haven't tried it) would it eat polyphony as you press the keyboard? just a thought.

Because if the answer is yes, our colleague might want to try a different approach... not to mention I'm pretty sure he wants to use a multitimbral module - so he will need more than just a single midi channel... unless he wants all those timbres layered / splitted across the same channel...

Don't believe it will take out Polyphony. Anyhow, you can double check it with the perfomance monitor tool in the fantom x.

I don't understand you're mutimode issue. But anyway , ofcoarse you can assign this empty patch to more tracks. I use the FantomX together with MotifXS this way (multimode). Only issue I have is that sysex needs to be used to switch the motif's master mode program nr's.

Cool. Thanks fellaz, any workaround would suffice because I was stumped. The manual says the keyboard switch (page 107) "specifies for each part whether or not the keyboard controller section will be connected....." I tried this and the internal sound still triggers, maybe it is something I am doing wrong?

Okay once again with the wonderful Roland Clan member's input I have figured it out. It is the "keyboard switch" on the "external" tab. If you disable this "keyboard switch" then the keyboard doesn't trigger the internal sound generator and you are free to go at it on any external sound module without triggering the Fantom's internal sounds. Thanks, hope someone learned something along with me?
