HELP..MY FINAL MIX WAV SOUNDS CLIPPED..

4 Feb 2008, 14:49
Friends im having some problems trying to play my final mix on the pc. I sequenced a song on my Fantom X7. And then Resampled the same song.SVQ and saved the final mix of the song as Cardsample.Wav on the card memory. Then i use the storage mode on the Fantom X and select card memory and copy the Wav file which was created on the FantomX in the Roland/SMPL to my pc. Now when i run the Wav file on any player say winamp or windows media player the first 2 seconds or say 1 second of the song plays fine and then the rest of the song clips and sounds static as if i detuned a radio or tv channel.. dat harsh hiss chip chip noise.. Then i tried another method again this time by saving the mixdown as a .AIFF file. And when i played it this time on the pc it sounded good. Did anyone face the same probs trying to play their sampled songs from the fantom X on their pc's. Can anyone help me to know as to why the the Fantom X generated Wav file noise clips and sounds static in the pc, while not the same when sampled as a .AIFF file. Thanks..

It sounds like you are playing the file back at the wrong sample rate. Check to make sure that the player is set to the same sample rate as what you output. (Probably 44.1 kHz, unless the Fantom is set to output 48 kHz. I suspect that this might be what is wrong.)

No clue if that is in fact the problem, but it is worth a shot.

Yes we did.

sammy dat doesnt seem to be the prob.. as winamp is meant to play wav files of standard compression rate. So should the Fantom X7 generate. I dont see any settings on the Fantom X to alter the sampling rate.

I, too, am experiencing a similar, if not the same, thing with my Fantom-S. Sometimes the clipping/static starts immediately; sometimes it's 1-2 seconds into the song. I posted the problem a few days ago and haven't received a solution. So, I am now anxiously awaiting a solution on this thread. Sorry that I can't help you, that I can only tell you that you are not alone with this problem.

I remember that I had artifacts like noise-bursts and gaps when I tried to resample a song in my X7's sequencer ... I actually never figured out where these came from but used the digital output to record directly to my PC instead - this works far better. But if anyone should find out why these problems can occur, I'd be really interested ... :)

Klangwelt.

Being a newbie, I'm not sure what you mean by your solution of using "the digital output to record directly to my PC". How do you do that?

The Fantom has these nice digital outputs in the standard "S/P-DIF"-format - the same connection that you'll find on virtually any CD- and DVD-player and in lots of PC-soundcards (even in cheaper models and soundcards integrated on the mainboard).

The Fantom X uses cinch-connectors for digital input and output. If your computer's soundcard has a digital input with cinch-connectors, then simply connect the Fantom's digital out to your PC's digital in (any cinch-cable will do), and you're ready to record the Fantom's output without any analog artifacts like noise or distortion and in crystal clear quality ... :)

as of today just now I am having a similar issue.
For the first time since having my Juno G I just tried to import a 2 track mixdown from the Juno (along with some audio samples I have gathered while using the Juno away from the studio) into my PC via USB storage mode. I was able to access the CF card on the Juno from my PC NO problemo, however EVERY file has either some or is completely obliterated with DIGITAL distortion. some files the first half a second or so will play followed by CSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

after testing a little more I am ABLE to transfer samples from my PC to the JUNO via temp/audio import without problems.

But why might I be getting a digital distortion on every file trying to xfer from the juno INTO the pc to STORE my samples?

is this similar to your problem Heartz?

I hate to say this, because it will sound like I'm trying to get rid of you (which I am not!) but I suggest that you ask Roland Tech support. Log on to rolandus.com, log in or create an account, and email them with the problem. I honestly think that they might have a clue as to what is going on.

Roland support is actually populated by a lot of intelligent people, or was for years at least. If they are still as good as they used to be, then they can undoubtedly help you. The kinds of responses that they give go beyond "make sure that the power button is on."

Hey triple dats exactly what im facing.. Well dale the outputs r there given on the fantom for the same sampling function.. But i still didnt try using them. But guys if roland has given a so called function to import and export Finished audio files from the pc to the fantom and viceversa wht ever created on teh fantom X, then y wud one use the outputs of the Fantom for sampling? Its understood in case of a external digital recorder to use the outputs of the fantom. Is there a flaw that roland has not addressed to or tried to resolve regarding how your finished wav file song sounds in the pc? What should we do in this case? Did any one try to get help from Roland Techies?

Hi all,

I have a junog and also encountered a distored wav output. Apparently the memory module I got was not the correct type. Once I removed the memory and did a mixdown using the onboard 4mg, the wav output was clean.

Pls make sure you're using PC 133, non buffered and non-eec type memory module.

Regards.

I'm using a PC 133 memory board that I have had for almost 3 years for my FS. I always follow the instructions in this site's FAQ's as well as the manual as I can't trust my memory to do it. I have had absolutely no problem until a couple of months ago and that's when the "noise" problem began. I hope Roland has not designed obsolescence into their machines hoping for more sales (like so many maufacturers of other items are known to do)! Good thing that this my hobby (with some income) and not my livelihood.

the prob seems to happen only when u sample a song into Wav file on the Fantom X. I tried sampling the song as a Aiff File on the fantom and tried listening to it on the pc after transfering it through the fantom, it all seems to be fine. So i guess Aiff format works.. So wht i did was i downloaded a software to Convert Aiff to Wav and mp3 formats. So ill have to manage it dat way for now. Upload the Aiff sample to the pc and then convert the file to Wav or Mp3..
