Finally...

Got home a little early tonight (by 7:30!!!), and finally had the chance to do a little playing with the FS. Recorded a little bit. Hopefully, I'll get to work on it and I can have something to send into Artemio. One thing that annoyed me, was I couldn't figure out how to quantize the "lengths" of notes (rather than quantizing timing). I don't think you can do it, as far as I can tell. But, I really wanted to do it!!!! Oh well. It was a lot of fun. It's amazing how much more I like the FS when I'm playing it as opposed to just posting messages about it.

Phil, there is a number in the edit mode that represents the legnth of the note. You have to do each note/track individually as far as I can tell but you can still dictate the duration of the note. Hope that helps.

Thanks pd -- I did notice that, but I was just too lazy. Maybe in the "editing" phase.

Phil - you CAN do it.

Go to Track Edit, and use Change Duration - this will help you reduce or increase the length of notes for a given channel and note range.

But simply changing the duration isn't the same as quantizing them - not to my mind anyway.

Change duration allows you to lengthen or shorten notes by a certain amount but doesn't enable you to set a fixed length for all notes, or have them all end on the beat - which to me is what quantization means, as opposed to just changing them

According to the manual, Quantize is meant to correct note on AND note off events (page 152). However, in limited experiments I tried it only seems to change the note on - the duration always seems to stay the same

Thanks Artemio, but I meant exactly what Lawrence wrote ... I didn't want to "offset" all durations equally, I wanted to actually set all notes to eighth note length or whatever.

Lawrence, I also did not see anything that would let me quantize note offs. Oh, well. Typically, it wouldn't be a big deal, I'd just do it in Sonar ... but that's not allowed if this will end up being sent off to Artemio!!! No big deal -- that's a lazy way to do things anyway.
