USB bug SOLVED!

USB bug SOLVED!

13 Apr 2007, 12:10
So I was having the missing folders problem when connecting to my PC. That is, I connected through USB and opened Interal or Card in Windows Explorer and the sample/sequencer/etc folders were missing. Reconnecting or rebooting the keyboard didn't fix it, the only way to fix it was to reboot my PC. It was a huge pain.

Fortunetly, I tried 2 things which solved the bug. Problem is: I tried them simultaneously, so I don't know which one worked. And no way I'm going to reverse it! :-)

Here's the "how to" steps:
1) My Computer - Manage - Storage - Removable drive - Assign a letter. I fixed the letter "J:" for the Juno-G.

2) My Computer - Properties - Hardware - Device Manager - USB Devices - USB Root Hub (each one) - Properties - Energy Saving - Uncheck the "disable device to save energy" option. Did this for each USB Root Hub (my computer has 3).

Like I said, one of those (or both!) made the trick. Now I can access Internal and Card folders normally anytime.

Phew! Minus one bug. :-D

Matias,

Thanks for posting this. I always encourage folks to post their solutions to a particular bug if they find one.

You have probably helped a lot of members by providing this information.

Thanks!

to this topic, it would be really usefull if JG could support more subfolders in path :\card\roland\seq ( or maybe in user memo too ).
if you have many songs in same format its not transparent to have all of them in one folder.

but i think its forbidden to change folders structure in JG/card so i am affraid to try it.

Jesus! I got another trick!
I just did a test connecting with Winamp opened (bug) and closed (worked)!!!! I'm using Winamp 5.33.

So it's all WINAMP's fault??? 8-o

To be continued....

Matias,

I have an X6, not a Juno G, but use Winamp, also. I haven't noticed this problem. I'm not sure Winamp would affect USB ports in an adverse way. I'll look into the configuration.

Let us know what you find. . . . . . .

Actually I noticed this bug a long time ago. The cause on my system was Windows Media Player. If I have Windows Media player open then the bug will take place. If I close Windows Media Player and then reconnect the Fantom I can see all the folders. I suspect it has something to do with the Media Sync that is trying to take place with Windows Media Player and it detects wht WAV files in my SMPL folder.

mmccurdy,

Your input just rang my bell. Various programs associate different filetypes to that particular program in Windows. I have a feeling that the .wav filetypes are associated with WinAmp in Matias' case and were associated with Media Player in your case. These associations can be changed:

Open Windows Explorer.
From the toolbar choose Tools>Folder Options.
Click on the 'File Types' tab.

File types will be listed. You can click on the 'Change' button to change the association.

Matias: Give that a try and see if that helps.
