Fantom polyphony problems
9 Apr 2007, 09:14I've been using an Alesis 6.1 with 64 voices for the past 5 years and never had a problem with polyphonic drop out. This weekend I picked up a Fantom XA for a good deal.
After some playing around, I finally got the Fantom up and running with Digital Performer as my external sequencer. I went ahead and tried to produce a test hip hop arrangement which is where I ran into trouble.
I sequenced about 8 tracks. I had a kick, a clap, a snare, 3 high hats, a bass, two guitars. Nothing was doing anything spectacular. The drum kit was doing a standard 4/4 boom, boom, clap. The bass was only playing two single notes, as for the guitar, one was strumming two chords in succession, the other was plucking an 4 bar arpeggio.
(So basically a bare bones beat.)
I went ahead and started to lay down my ninth track which were some strings, and low and behold, I couldn't. Everytime I played a chord, I would get drop outs occuring.
I then tried different sounds, and it happened with all of them.
So I then just tried to play some strings (The majestic strings patch I believe). I played two chords which consisted of 6 notes simultaneously. Low and behold, I couldn't even play this chord combination without drop out.
Now for a keyboard with 128 note polyphony, I would assume it would play it's own patches without drop out. I also would assume that I could sequence 16 tracks layered over each other, with no problem, as long as I wasn't trying to play like 48 notes at once.
I never had these problems before. Do you think I have something set wrong? Or do you think that there is a problem with my keyboard???
Has anybody else had these issues, am I doing something wrong?
I know that 128 poly isn't a true reading due to how many voices and waves are in a patch, but I know the music I was playing shouldn't have overloaded the voice count.
PLEASE HELP!!! I have till next Friday to return this thing if it indeed doesn't work.
Thank You for your time!
