Alesis M1 Actives MkII. I dont see how you can make better monitors than these. :-D

Adam A7's and Sub8 - which totally kick ass and leave me in danger of getting my ass kicked by the Mrs on many occasions.....

Matthew
Mackie HR824 - chosen for their extended bass response and reported flat response overall

They are great sounding monitors but I find them a little difficult for studio monitoring due to their extended bass response

I'll probably upgrade to something from Quested, Dynaudio or Adams at some stage

Cheers

klipch Pro Media 2.1

I am really happy with them... honestly I do not know how flat the freq response is but they are great for what I mix and I am pretty nitpicky about my music.

I'm using some mid range Roland speakers with digital ins.... I guess I don't care enough about them to even know what model number they are. They sound hideous and have tons of port noise/vibration crap.

I'm going for the Mackie HR824s as soon as I can afford them.

Yes, I'm using the KRK 10" Rokit sub with my KRK V6, and it's fine. Like you, I noticed there was no "matching" sub for the V6, but the Rokit sub is good enough. It makes a big difference in not producing mixes that have too much low bass information.

Truth be told, I bought them because they weren't too expensive, and, at the time, I had no idea what to look for in a decent monitor, just didn't want to be stuck with computer speakers (which sounded terrible, by the way).

In the end, though, I've been quite happy with them, although one of them tends to be a little distorted at the high end these days since my littlest one decided to poke her finger into the tweeter on the left monitor... I managed to pop it back out, but every now and again I hear it buzzing...

Still, for my use, they sound great. What's depressing is that they sound ever so much better than the expensive PA system at church when I plug in there, which is always dissappointing. I'm considering going out and getting a KC-350 or something for live play so I don't have to worry about the cruddy system at church...

I use Genelec 8040A, and they are awesome. I couldn't really afford them, but once I heard'em I couldn't get anything else ;)

I also seriously considered KRK v6 mkII, but they hadn't enough bass. Since they didn't have the KRK v8, the choice was clear: Genelec.

They are not cheap, but I suggest you stretch you budget maximally to get these. Awesome, and best in test in all the major magazines.
Alternatively you may want to check out the cheaper, but still great I suspect, KRK v8

I agree with Hugo. Although the higher end monitors are pricey, they are the single most important addition you can make to your studio.

I'll echo the statement above mine. Get the BEST monitors you can afford and don't skimp out in this area! Save longer if you have to. I know the montiors are not the "funnest" purchase but it will be a big benefit to you for many years down the road.

I have the Event ALP5 monitors and now I wish I would have saved a bit more and bought some Dynaudio, Adams, or the Mackie HR824's. For the price ($330) I will say that my Event ALP5's are excellent. But the one problem I keep running into a bit is how the bass translates from the Events to cheap stereo equipment. The Events (and a lot of other studio monitors) handle bass very well and then you play your "perfect" mix on cheaper systems and they are overloaded a bit with Bass.

The Events work for me though but it is essential to do back to back comparisons with professional cd's and really listen to the bass so I get it roughly the same.

Alesis M1 Actives MkII. If you can afford it, get it.

This monitors cost between 400 and 500 usd the pair (some times less if you look enought on eBay). They are, from my experience and investigated facts, the best quality monitors you can get for that kind of money. Any other brand offering that kind of quality sound and excelent professional studio reference costs more than 1000 usd.

Also, as they are active, you don't need any amp for them. They are completely made to deliver a really great and impresive studio quality sound reference.
