Anyone had it with the Fantom pads?

Anyone had it with the Fantom pads?

Yesterday I was trying to bang out the drums for a beat I was working on and I just had had it with the pads on the Fantom X. I started using the keys with better results.

I was thinking, would it be a good idea to purchase the Akai MPD 16 for the feel of the pads? How would I hook that up and would I still be able to mute tracks in mixer mode with the Fantom's pads?

I hated the pads on the Fantom... until I changed them to "light". Very usable this way.

I use the pads for RPS/arps mostly.

i would say take off aftertouch completely that will fix the majority of your problems... the aftertouch is just a little odd for hammering out beats

I remembered the Fantom X pads being a little easier on the fingers, but mine is just as stiff as ever. I did the Light touch setting too, left aftertouch on, and increased the volume of the percussion sounds too, and now it's much easier to be Terry Bozio or Bill Bruford. I still go to the keyboard when my fingers get tired tho.

no problem with pads, with the variable velocities, there fantomized.

I'd like to know why people don't like them. As a matter of interest.

... probably because out-of-the box, they are set up a bit different from most drum machines. A little tweaking, though (velocity, aftertouch, etc.), and I have a very usable "free" drum machine.
