Hey,
You can check out other posts here in 'Usage with eternal gear an software' Such as;
http://forum.fantomized.info/?action=show_thread&thread=6773&fid=8&page=1

The basic setup is the same for Fruityloops and for other various programs, this should work for you.

P.S. Yes you do use midi, either thru USB or MIDI cables.

What u need is FX USB driver at the computer if you want to use USB for Midi data transfer. You can download it from Roland web site. AFter that, your FX should show up at your computer Midi device list as FantomX.
Then go to your program and choose Midi port and select FantomX.
Make sure that Fantom is in USB-Midi mode.(which model of Fantom do you have??)

i have a fantom S...and can u direct me to where the fx usb driver is at

I think why dkpcola was checking what model you have is because ONLY the X can use USB for MIDI. I quickly checked the S manual and no where does it say you can transfer MIDI signals through USB, only data transfers. Correct me if im wrong, i have an X, but i remember reading that a while back.

C Stylez,

You cannot use FX drivers for your S model. Folks were responding to you thinking you had an X, since you didn't specify that in your post.

LanProductions is correct. USB can be used only for data transfer and for using the Editor/Librarian software (using the Editor/Librarian requires a USB/Midi interface, such as the Edirol).

So your option is to use standard midi cables through a midi compatible card in your computer.

I use Fantom-S, and I have midi cables and compatible soundcard. I tried to make midi connection, but I couldn't get my fantom-S connected. I don't know what I was doing wrong? Is there anybody, who connected Roland provided cd softwares with Fantom-S via standart midi cable?

MIDI is not audio...

Here is my reply from the other thread you posted:

And you're not going to get any sound from the Fantom in FL. MIDI is NOT audio. It's a digital protocol based on hexadecimal strings of numbers that allows one piece of MIDI equipment to talk to another (or to itself). Read this again - there is no audio transmitted or received whatsoever, only digits.

Now, if you are talking about having the Fantom cause FL to play FL sounds, that's different. That's where MIDI comes in. MIDI messages - note on, note off, volume, key velocity etc. are transmitted and received by each device. And again, these are not audio signals. They are digital instructions telling a MIDI device what to do.

basically i wanna record my fantom sounds into FL

Re: How do u connect a fantom to Fruityloops?

you cant just record fantoms sounds to your FL. You can sample the sounds if you want. however, you can record midi data so that fantom can play it back with its sounds.

in other words, using FL, u can sequence songs and you can route the audio from the fantom to the computer to mix down audio.

If you've got the latest FL studio, you can record your fantom into it, but you'll need to hook up your audio cables to. Right now, you have cables coming out of your Fantom, going some way or another into a set of speakers. Those cables need to get to your computer, if you want to record Fantom sounds. Wether you have an X, S, or FA-76.

Then you can use midi to sync FL to your fantom, that way when you push play on the fantom, FL will start also. I highly recommend you look through your manual, and look over the connection part a few times. This is all covered. Also, check out the site linked to above, and any thing you can find regarding midi as well as digital audio(midi isn't digital audio), I mean if you are serious about this.

The easiest thing for you to do, without buying anything new, would be to sync your Fantom to FL, so you can play along to whatever groove you got going there. record your sequence into the Fantom, while playing along with FL. Then hit skip back sampling. Trim up your sample, and save it. then hook up your USB, and move your sample over to your computer. Load that sample into FL, and have fun.

"basically i wanna record my fantom sounds into FL"

This has nothing to do with midi. Connecting midi will only send data signals to your computer, not sound.

So what do i need to do then?READ THIS

What this means is, you create a sound you like for your song, you either 're-sample' it or 'skip back sample' it. By doing this it will create a .wav file on your card or internal memory, then transfer to your computer. You then take that .wav and import it into fruityloops, and your set.

How do i get the .wav file into fruityloops? Have a look in the fruityloops 'Help' to guide you, this is a really simple thing.

This is the most simple way i can think of, to get the fantom sounds into fruityloops, idealy you would do it the way thunderkyss has suggested, but this seems way over your head. You need to understand how it all works before you will be able to get the most out of both you fantom and fruityloops.

If that dosen't help, read any other relevent infomation in the FAQ and start a new topic, with great detail explain what your stuck on, and we will try and help you.

Good luck, let us know how your going.
