alternate tunings

alternate tunings

I have a program on the computer called Scala that has alternate tunings. The program allows you to select a specific tuning and then is supposed to send it via midi connection to the synth. It allows for choosing the type of synth you are using. In this case the closest is "Roland JV/XV" which should be acceptable for the Fantom X. I'm not sure what happens when the X7 recieves this but I don't notice any difference in the tuning. What exactly is changed when an alternate scale is recieved? Any of you experts have any experience loading alternate tunings?

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you could intercept the sysex message that the program sends using a program like MIDIOX you might be able to analize it.

It should be in this format for the Fantom X:
F0 41 10 42 12 40 11 40 [3A 6D 3E 34 0D 38 6B 3C 6F 40 36 0F] 76 F7 sends the Arabian Scale to part 1 of a performance. The part between brackets is the actual Scale. (See page 329 of Fantom X manual) Change the 7th byte (11) to let it apply to other parts. Patch mode and Piano mode use the Scale Tune of part 1.

As this Sysex message's adressing as well as it's ModelID differs from "normal" Fantom X sysex messages my guess is it's a some sort of standardization for this feature that could indeed apply to a whole collection of Roland gear (maybe even other brands). So in theory this software Scala should work.

Have you tried switching the Scale Tune switch to ON in MENU->System->Scale Tune? This must be turned ON for this feature to work even when you use it in performance mode as opposed to setting the values in the System Menu.
