Merging Songs

I am trying to find a way to merge two versions of a song together. I wonder if anyone can help. Thanks!

I have a song I created. It started out with 4 tracks. While playing back and listening, I got another idea and added a fifth track and also did a little efx tinkering then saved song to preserve the original version. I did this a few times each time saving with a new name to preserve the prior. Now I have six versions of the song each consecutive having differences from the previous. I like some of the sounds that are in the earlier versions however due to efx and such, the sounds I like did not make it into the final version. Now I want to merge the versions together and then weed out the unwanted stuff leaving a combination of the best of all six. I get the feeling I am going to have to use software to do what I want but was hoping someone might know how to do it on the fantom s. Thanks bassman for trying to help out.

Hey pd,

The only thing that comes to mind for me is when I would do something similar to what you described: Add a track, change a track, or whatever. Then I would want to pick and choose the tracks I liked best (better solo, comping,etc.).

In instances like this I would then use the 'Load Track' option in Song Edit and select the various tracks from the different versions that I wanted. Of course, I had to remember to erase the original track prior to loading the selected track. I could then 'build' the version I wanted.

I've never noticed or had to check on some of the EFX stuff to see if that was loaded with the individual track. Also, I have an X, not an S. I'm assuming you can load individual tracks on the S.

Don't know if that helps, but that's what I've done in the past. . . . .

Basically, PD, you need to start off with the song that has the patches and effects set up as you like. So load it up. From this point, import the tracks like Bassman suggested from the second song into empty tracks. Now, just look if you need to shift these imported tracks by some measures - use "delete" or "insert measures" to do this.

Well that's the hard part of this issue I guess. Each song has parts that are desirable before certain efx or RTC functions and have desirability after certain efx and or RTC functions so I am now trying to merge said songs so that I might remove the undesirable of each to attain the desired mix. Am I not making sense?
The thing with using load track is they will take on the essence of the song settings of the place I load them to. I need each track to maintain its own settings.
Oh and to increase the enormity the song in question is not just two versions. The song is at generation six. Got any ideas?

PD, if you do find an answer to this outside the forum, please post it. I'd also really like to know how to do this.
