Switcing patches for external gear w/MSB/LSB

So I have figured out how to do this but I guess im finding out that I must have tone one set to external always.
Meaning even though I do not want the Fantom to control sounds and just change patches ...i have to create my scene
with an external tone and keep the volume turned down. Is that correct?

Each of the 16 zones can be configured with one set of bank select MSB/LSB and PC values. A zone will only transmit these messages if it is set to EXT or BOTH. If you only want to send the MSB/LSB and PC values, and no other MIDI messages, then set the key range for that zone to the lowest key, and disable the transmission of all other MIDI messages in the zone settings.

Fantastic Idea....The way I had it turning the volume for that channel effected my top board.
Awesome....Im really loving this board....Do I say goodbye to my FA06? Hmmm
