External midi controller and transpose

External midi controller and transpose

14 Mar 2023, 17:19
Hi finally i was able to setup my fantom with an external keyboard but it seems when i set the transpose/octave shift per zone or per scene the fantom still uses the external keyboard's transpose settings. Is there a way to setup so the external keyboard uses the fantom's transpose settings ?

If i change the global transpose (in the system menu) then it works but that is not really a practical way...
Thanks !

There are 3 important zone pitch parameters: Transpose, Coarse Tune and Octave Shift. The first one is a controller parameter whereas the other two are parameters for the tone generator. That means Transpose effects the (MIDI) events that are generated by the local controller, whereas Coarse Tune and Octave Shift affect the tone generated for a MIDI event (coming from the controller or an external source).

In other words, both Coarse Tune and Octave Shift should affect events coming from an external controller (as well as events coming from the local keyboard).

Wow thank you it finally works. One problem solved ! But is it possible to somehow do transpose on the fly with the fantom's transpose up down buttons ?
So i work on cruise ships and we work many times with guests and crew so changing the key is a very common thing.
Thanks! Regards

If you have to use transpose on the fly, then I would aim for the simplest possible setup to reduce the chance of errors.

For example, if you only use the Fantom-0 (without external controller), then the transpose button on the Fantom-0 should work the way you need it.

If the only reason for the external controller is to have two types of actions (synth and weighted, for example Fantom-07 with Studiologic SL-88), then you can use the remote keyboard mode on the Fantom-0, and in this mode, the transpose button on the Fantom-0 will affect both keyboards simultaneously.

If you have more requirements, then it gets more complicated.

Yes that's exactly what i want to do ! And thank you once again ! I just checked out and found the remote keyboard switch and works as a charm !
Thank you very very much !
