I’m considering buying a used Fantom 0 series keyboard. Are there any negatives to buying used instead of new? Warranty would not apply of course. Would you be limited in terms of downloads or support options? Anything else you can think of?
There is one special thing about the Fantom and Fantom-0: Roland offers paid add-ons (model expansions and sound packs). The add-ons are linked to a Roland Cloud account. AFAIK, Roland does not support ownership transfer for these add-ons. All installed add-ons must be linked to the same Roland Cloud account.
That means it gets complicated if the seller has bought add-ons for the Fantom-0, and wants to sell the Fantom-0 with the add-ons. In this case, I would ask for details, and then come back to this forum with these details, and ask for clarification what that means for you.
If they sell it without add-ons, then it is similar to other keyboards of similar age. I have bought a number of pre-owned keyboards, and I would recommend using a platform for used gear that helps the buyer to sort out issues if there are any.
