Sustain problem via MIDI IN Port - from MIDI Interface
1 Jan 2021, 15:26Hi there,
Have a Fantom 8 synth (recently purchased) and it's connected to a MIDI interface, NOT USB via the computer (Mac mini M1 running Big Sur OS).
When I send Sustain MIDI data (control 64, 0 or 127) down the MIDI cable from Logic Pro X from the MIDI interface to the Fantom 8, the Fantom 8 does not always register the sustain off command and the chords bleed into one another which is an irritant.
Initially I was using the USB cable on my 2008 Mac Pro to send MIDI (was working fine) but recently I purchased a new Mac mini M1 (Big Sur OS) and the USB driver is not yet compatible. I have checked the Roland Big Sur OS compatibility site and the driver is still under testing so that avenue is not possible for the time being. I'm sure this will be fixed in a few weeks. Therefore I must use this route unless I go back to my Mac Pro.
However, back to the original problem, using the Foot pedal connected to the HOLD port works fine on the Roland 8 itself however sending sustain commands via a MIDI cable (MIDI port IN) does not do what it is supposed to do.
I have tried a few cables and the results are the same. I think this might be a bug with the Roland 8 MIDI IN port and the onboard version 2 firmware???
If I am doing something silly then looking forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks.
Regards,
Phill
