X8 + V-Synth = FUN!

X8 + V-Synth = FUN!

First the physical connections: I run a single RCA cable from the V-Synth digital outputs into the digital inputs of my X8. My headphones plug into the X8. I have two hold pedals -- one for each synth.

Second the setup: I set the V-Synth volume to max, switch on the "Mix" button on the X, and adjust the mix gain to match the volume of the X. Now I can adjust the volume of both synths simultaneously by just turning the X master volume knob. As a side note, I disabled the X's input effects.

And finally the performance: With a single pair of headphones, I command a complete music powerhouse. The X8 for pianos and such, plus rhythm accompanyment, and the V for leads/pads. I set the X for a nice acoustic bass sound, the V for a rhodes, and a bossa beat on the X... instant piano bar! I set the X for Grand Piano, the V for pizzicato strings, and voila! instant classical. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the combination of these two boards is.

I've never had so much fun making music. And I think it is largely due to how easy both synths are to use. They don't get in the way of my creativity at all.

Fun Followup... Digital vs. Analog

I originally had the V connected to the X via analog stereo L/R cables. Last night I switched to the single RCA digital cable, thinking I was being even more clever. However, I noticed that I did not have the same volume control anymore... I could turn the V's volume all the way down and the level remained constant. I could also adjust the X's input gain knob all day long and the level remained constant. I had to go into the input edit screen and manually adjust the input level parameter to affect the volume. Strange! Definitely not what I expected.

Ah, my envy sets in. ;)

Got the X8 (LOVE IT!)...now just have to save up enough to tack on the V-Synth. Thanks for confirming that this is a great combo!
