PLEASE ROLAND!! A simple MID recorder for RD 700 GX + Supern

Let's be fair. The RD is not a workstation. Even if they put a simple recorder of any kind into the RD, believe me, others will jump in and complain how limited the recorder is.
What yamaha has or not, doesn't change the things. On the other hand, the RD has the ability to stream wav, mp3 and midi directly from the usb. You can even prepare your song or samples and trigger the parts directly from the keyboard on the lowest octave.
There are some really cool features on the board as it is.
But at the end, don't expect form Roland to implement anything new on the keyboard as it is now.

Get yourself an iPod touch with Line6 MIDI cable and for just around $250 total you have a terrific MIDI and audio recorder that you can have in your pocket.

Yes RD has all this cool features, and yes its not a workstation and a sequencer its not needed, but all this features requires a COMPUTER attached to it. To people that have not a roadie to carry on their things, a computer in their pack makes a difference.

Im not asking fancy, just a basic recorder, that can be handy to make great things, like a realtime back track for solos, without involve other hardware like a computer, sonar, all production stuff on.

About Yamaha, yes means something, and in this point they are way better than Roland: they really try to listen and please their customers, and has a clear tendency to at least RECORD your playings in all their new gear, even accoustic ones.

Take the direct concurrent S90XS, record anything to USB alone.

@Moj - I have faint hope that Roland changed, but yes, I didnt expect anything from ROLAND. With my experiences in the past with FG, its better be conformed with the HALF BACKED gears from Roland as it is, or wait sit. Dont get me wrong, RD its a formidable piano and its my favorite one, no need be S90XS, but some confort/luxury/convenience its apreciated, specially outdoors.

There is no need of a outstanding piano like 700gx, be a spartan piece of iron .

lisandro, I registered at iTunes with a random US address (I use Roland US address), and I can buy anything at iTunes and App Store US You just don't register credit card or PayPal there, use prepaid iTunes cards to top up your account with money.

You have to admit, a tiny recorder can solve gracefully this matter... But Roland is Roland, we have try to figure out who said to them that spartan gear its better...

They show to us that they, as always, can do nice hardware with no brains.

a simple scratchpad recorder is a must in 21 century. Roland probably wants people to buy fantom G instead.... I have also workstation and I still want a simple recorder - I won't buy next stage piano without it.

I agree with you, a piano like this, that costs 2000 euros in Italy can't miss such a feature.

no, they would have to add some hardware, but it's no problem - they can build SRX card recorder and bingo! SRX slot is wasted anyway because sounds from these cards are obsolete already and almost useless.

i haven't heard any of the srx cards...but to use one slot for a simple recorder is a good idea...if only Roland could hear....

Totally agree with you on that one delirium! I really don't know why Roland didn't implement the ARX expansion capabilities to the GX, especially sense it obviously has the capacity to handle it! I have a strange feeling that they might do something because remember the SN piano board is called the RD700GX-1, so possibly in the near future they may create an RD-700GX-2. What it will be, I have no idea, but it seems that Roland is sticking with the GX and not upgrading to a new board.

KPro81, I think you're right and RD700GX is kinda transition product.

I really don't like directions and roland politics, I believe yamaha or korg give users much more in one complete package and my next stage piano most likely will be yamaha again.

Provided they have enough processor overhead left in the GX, if they can already read and write a USB thumb drive then a SW update could most likely give you a WAV recorder.

And I agree, why do they even bother with the SRX cards anymore if they aren't going to somehow give us newer and larger sample sets? That said, I'd gladly buy an SRX card dedicated to pipe organs, particularly if they implemented stops. I'm not a big fan of the ARX either, as they cost way too much and I believe contain a processor - what's the point with that? Surely a main processor in the GX capable of massive sample playback wouldn't cost more than $10 USD (retail) these days? How about sample sets on USB drives? No, that's too easy and Roland won't make $1 per byte or whatever gold plated price they continue to charge for tiny, ancient, creaky, old, lame sample sets.

And good luck on your next Yamaha stage piano, particularly if you like acoustic pianos. Roland SN AP sound generation technology is head and shoulders above anything else out there right now.

Without looking at any manuals beforehand, I went to the local Guitar Center and played with both the GX and a couple of the CP line - I could get around on the GX pretty easily as the interface is fairly intuitive - but with the CP I couldn't figure out how to change the voice or get the drums to not play when I played a key - the user interface is a nightmare in comparison. I don't care how good it plays or sounds if it means I will live in constant fear of hitting the wrong button without the manual (or 3 in the case of the CP) open in my lap.

Just I said before, Roland have a nice hardware, but when it comes to usability and user care, they kill a close to perfection piece of equipment, making us "think" in other brands.
