Synth Identification

Synth Identification

Let me start by saying this is a post meant for the experienced synth programmers, especially Art (he wrote the book). I bought the Tweakbook thinking it would make me a phat-synth creating animal, but it reminded me I need to know more details before I can do this. I am not good at identifying synths by ear. I cannot hear something and immediately identify it as a square wave with an LFO and so on. I am reading my Tweakbook and trying to become more familiar but it is confusing for me.

I have attached examples of what I am trying to create, sounds similar to these synths are my goal (not necessarily Lil Jon). I want phat, melodic synth tones that sit behind/underneath in the instrumental but its still "groovy" alone. I can't identify what the source is, hopefully someone can help me, its that background "synth" I am looking for. The first is like a whistle, the second is a lil too aggressive but will do and the third is like a "space echoed" version of the first. Thanks

I can quickly suggest that:

- The whistle sound can be created by detuning 2-3 sine waves
- Then there is a buzzy lead which is basically a high-pass-filtered supersaw (try the Trance Saw waveform)
- The powerful lead in the next piece is a mix of 3-4 detuned square and saw waves

Happy tweaking! ;-)
